The PS5 Pro, Sony's powerful upgraded console, is in the spotlight for many gamers. However, not all titles can live up to the high expectations. Especially... Star Wars Jedi: Survivor This is currently causing discontent: The game's graphical quality falls short of the console's capabilities. The reason? An older version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology. But there is hope: A developer promises that future games will look significantly better.

Outdated technology slows down PS5 Pro games

In the ResetERA forums The developer, who calls himself Koralsky, commented on the game's image quality. According to him, it is based on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on SDK 9, which is not compatible with the latest PSSR versions. Instead, the very first version of the upscaler was apparently used – with visibly disappointing results. Furthermore, the game runs on Unreal Engine 4, which further limits the use of modern technologies. Titles such as [list of titles] are also currently affected. Alan Wake and Silent Hill 2, which PS5 Pro players are complaining about.

Koralsky explains that newer PSSR versions already exist and will be used in the second and third waves of PS5 Pro games. A current project he's working on utilizes a later PSSR version and achieves impressive results—even better than those of TSR (Temporal Super Resolution) and FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution). The technology is therefore constantly evolving, and gamers can expect significant improvements in image quality in the coming months.

Up to 1 year of patience required

While the first generation of PS5 Pro titles still suffers from technical limitations, the future promises much more. Within the next six to twelve months, PSSR technology could set the standard that fans expect from a console like the PS5 Pro.

For gamers, this means: Just a little more patience – and the leap into the next visual dimension should be worth it.
