Anyone who later takes advantage of a free PS5 upgrade will surely also ask themselves what will happen to their existing PS4 copy?
Will this become invalid or deactivated? This question PlayStation Support is currently answering this question.This means that both copies of the game, on PS4 and on PS5, will remain valid. After an upgrade, you will therefore have two copies of the game that can be used independently, including their respective save files.
PlayStation Support writes the following:
"Since the PS4 and PS5 copies are separate, and the PS5 copy represents free access to that platform, you still have access to your progress and data for PS4. Essentially, it's as if you have two copies: one for each platform."
One exception is the PS4 disc version, which is absolutely necessary to later play the digital version of the PS5 copy. This is how publishers protect themselves from an unlimited number of downloads simply by passing the disc around.
The PS5 will be available in Europe from November 19th. It is not yet known where and when pre-orders will be available again.
