In the eternal battle of console manufacturers, one factor often takes center stage: raw hardware power. Microsoft has already made it clear that the upcoming Xbox will... PlayStation 6 It is supposed to surpass the competition in terms of hardware performance. However, while the focus remains on teraflops and technical superlatives, there are also critical voices from within the company itself.

Seamus Blackley, one of the co-founders of the Xbox, sees the future of consoles differently. In an interview with Videogamer He argued that the real key to success was not graphic overkill, but unique content and unforgettable gaming experiences.

Graphical marvels without magic?

Blackley recalls a special moment from the past: "I remember seeing Gran Turismo when it came out for the PS1, and I just had to have it because I couldn't believe what I was seeing." This kind of wonder at technology has disappeared today because graphics have long since reached a high level and visual leaps are less and less surprising.

Instead, Blackley argues, the industry needs to find new ways to excite players. "There are no more graphics that convey that feeling.""He observes that the future therefore no longer lies in the arms race for pixels and polygon counts, but in fresh, original gaming experiences."

The real challenge: Essential experiences

"If you want to win, you have to create something that you simply MUST have." Blackley continued. Console manufacturers are facing a huge hurdle: “It's like trying to suck a huge grape through a straw. You have to get people to spend hundreds of dollars on a console just to play a $70 game. The appeal of a new platform must therefore extend far beyond technical specifications.

Blackley distances itself from Microsoft's current strategy. "How they run this brand today is not my damn fault.", he stated dryly. "I would have done things differently. Whether that would have been better or worse, I can't say. But constantly talking about more performance doesn't get us anywhere today."

The future of Xbox and PlayStation

While Microsoft continues to rely on brute-force hardware, Sony is already developing the next PlayStation generation with AMD.But is that enough?

Sony has introduced features like the DualSense controller It has already been proven that immersive innovations can elevate the gaming experience to a new level. However, to entice players to upgrade to a new console generation, both manufacturers need to offer more than just more pixels and faster loading times.

The crucial question remains: Who will be the next Gran TurismoHow can we create a moment that not only impresses players but leaves them speechless with amazement? Perhaps this console war won't be decided by teraflops – but by the courage to be creative. Which is essentially what Sony stands for.

Funny, all the Xbox fanboys always placed so much importance on that and rubbed it in everyone else's faces…

Graphics and gameplay should go hand in hand, otherwise I might as well go back to playing the old SNES games. They're definitely fun, but I don't really want to subject myself to that kind of graphical or stylistic approach anymore. That's why I love indie games; they don't even need to have bombastic graphics, but they have their own cool style.

With the next console generation approaching, I wonder why Xbox would even want to release another console? Given Microsoft's current situation with the Xbox division, it doesn't make sense to me. Which is why, if Microsoft decides to release its exclusives on competing platforms, I expect to only own a PlayStation and a Switch next generation.

I am extremely disappointed with Microsoft and its current policies. The release on competing platforms has, at least for me, eliminated the console's unique selling point.

I downloaded Star Wars: Jedi Survivor yesterday. It's now included in the PS+ subscription.
It looks really impressive in quality mode. However, you can unfortunately also feel the lower frame rates.
Performance is therefore extremely important. They shouldn't think they can deliver 30fps gameplay again. I definitely don't want that anymore.
