You could almost think Sony and Microsoft had just introduced a "console senior citizen pass," only without the free coffee. KRAFTON means business: Starting from the 13. November running PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Only on PS5 and Xbox Series. PS4 and Xbox One? Out of the picture.

Eight years later, the end is overdue.

Let's be honest: The PS4 had a run. For eight years it PUBG (and seemingly every other live service carrot) tolerating it. But anyone who's ever tried to start a current battle royale round on the PS4 knows it feels like a LAN party in 2002, only with a worse frame rate. That KRAFTON is now switching to native current-gen versions isn't a betrayal, but a long overdue spring cleaning.

All-natural verkauft one cannot simply dismiss the whole thing as “The old hardware can't handle it anymore.", but as "necessary step for a more stable gaming experience“That sounds like the same old recipe: Take a technical fact, sprinkle it with buzzwords like…” optimized storage management and seamless future updates – and the marketing magic potion is ready. Bonus point for the emotional touch: “We still vividly remember epic battles.“That sounds a bit like the PS4 version is being buried in a heroes' graveyard.”

The domino effect for live service games

What KRAFTON is doing here is essentially the first domino to fall. Games like Genshin Impact They no longer take old hardware into consideration. Live service means: new content, better performance, fewer crashes. And at some point, the developers ask themselves: “Should we rather add new features – or do another round of optimization for consoles from 2013?"

Bottom line: Yes, it hurts a little to say goodbye to the old machines. But if we're honest, the battle royale heart is looking forward to more stable frame rates, prettier textures, and less "Returned to the lobby due to crash"-moments. The PS4 and Xbox One have done their duty. Now they can retire, perhaps with a nice Genshin account as a memento."
