Ubisoft is fundamentally rebuilding “Rainbow Six Siege”, replacing Dokkaebi’s iconic logic bomb with destructive damage malware under the “Operation System Override” name, while the ranked matchmaking system is completely revamped to reflect actual rank with Ranked 3.0.
The upcoming update will deliver a complete overhaul of the operator balancing, the Calypso Casino map from Rainbow Six: Vegas in a modern guise, and native mouse and keyboard support for console players in the PC pool from the middle of the season.
Dokkaebi loses logic bomb for deadly Jegeo payloads
The days when Dokkaebi simply made enemy phones ring are over. With his new ability, Jegeo-Payload (derived from the Korean word for elimination), the attacker loads malware onto enemy surveillance devices. The affected smartphone explodes right next to the defender's body, dealing 40 damage and setting the surrounding area on fire.
Additionally, the need to get close to the phones of incapacitated enemies to hack them is eliminated; access can now be achieved from a safe distance. To compensate for the massive buff, the duration of the blockade is reduced, while the number of charges increases and the cooldown is shortened. Tactically, this transforms Dokkaebi from a pure scout into an aggressive damage dealer, who also gains a new, mobile bullpup assault rifle for medium ranges: the XK23 AR.
Ranked 3.0 eliminates the hidden MMR.
The competitive heart of “Rainbow Six Siege“The system will also be fundamentally changed. The previous hidden matchmaking rating (MMR) system is being completely removed. From now on, only the visible rank will determine matchmaking. At the start of the new season, all ranks will be reset, and five placement matches will calibrate the rating based on the previous year's performance.”
The most significant restriction, however, concerns fixed squads. To prevent unfair pairings, team members may differ by a maximum of three ranks, and in the highest tiers, Diamond and Champion, by only two ranks. The elite also compete in five new Champion subdivisions (Champion I to V), with Champion I marking the top of the rankings.
Technical modernization and console revolution
The legendary Calypso Casino map returns in a heavily modified form. To meet the tactical demands of Siege, Ubisoft has integrated new vertical pathways: a rooftop crane, a basement spawn point for facade sessions, and an expanded drone chute network alter the classic layout. The Emerald Plains, Canal, and Outback maps are simultaneously receiving a graphical update, including 4K textures and improved lighting.
Midway through the season, Ubisoft broke with a long-standing console policy. Mouse and keyboard were officially supported, but with a strict limitation: console players using these peripherals were automatically placed in the PC crossplay pool. Their use remained strictly prohibited in console-only lobbies.
The highlights
- Gridlock: Trax Stingers now cause 10 seconds of lameness, the HP of the spikes increases from 1 to 35, the number decreases to 3.
- Zofia: Switches to 2 armor and 2 speed for greater mobility.
- Nomad: The range of the Airjabs increases to 3,25 meters.
- Mozzie: Drone interception radius increased to 1,75 meters.
- Pulse: Heart sensor now scans up to 10,5 meters.
- Solis: SPEC-IO and overclock duration increases to 17 seconds.
- Deimos: Target acquisition after DeathMARK identification is reduced to 4 seconds.
The update marks the end of cosmetic rankings in Ranked mode. Players should expect noticeably tougher, but more transparent matches, as actual skill will once again be directly correlated with rank. The new mouse and keyboard support for consoles is a fair compromise and eliminates unfair hardware advantages in console matches. Instead, players are being guided to where they belong – the PC pool.
