Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the next first-party title, which makes the leap from PS5 to PC. Here too, significant improvements are offered, which Sony is presenting today – including new features.

Those with a sufficiently powerful gaming PC can look forward to features such as DirectStorage 1.2, including GPU decompression. DirectStorage ensures fast loading times, while GPU decompression is used with demanding graphics settings to stream assets in the background during gameplay, maintaining a high level of detail.

DirectStorage was designed to fully utilize the speed of fast PCIe NVMe SSDs, but the technology is also compatible with SATA SSDs and even traditional hard drives. Nevertheless, it's recommended to play Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart with an SSD. It was initially stated that the PS5 title wouldn't run at all without an SSD. This was contradicted by a developer who believes that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart even feasible on the PS3 It would have been, since there's quite a lot of trickery involved here.

Ray tracing, 3 monitors and more

PC gamers also benefit from further advantages, including improved ray tracing. This encompasses shadows and reflections, as well as ambient occlusion. The team also utilizes the XeGTAO option – Intel's implementation of "Ground-Truth Ambient Occlusion," which works with common graphics cards from all manufacturers.

"A lot of work went into scalability during the development of the PC version. The aforementioned features, as well as support for three monitors, allow players to fully utilize their systems. At the same time, the highly customizable graphics and functions ensure that as many players as possible can enjoy the adventure."

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart It will be released on July 26th for PC.

[UpdateMeanwhile, compatibility with SteamDeck has also been confirmed, which once again raises the question regarding the SSD: how much truth was there in the previous statement that the game could only be realized with the speed of the PS5?

The 2230 NVMe SSD built into SteamDeck currently delivers a maximum speed of 4,750 MB/s read and 4,300 MB/s write, which is far below the PS5 specifications.

If only the authenticity cutscenes are running on a hard drive, they will stutter.
If they were to pre-render it and use the graphics from the PS4 remake, the game would also be possible on the PS4; so much for the "only on PS5" claim.

Yes, it works, but how? Again, Digital Foundry has built the most powerful PC, and the PS5 runs a tad better. If that's not optimization, then I don't know what is. If they did the same optimization for the high-end PC, it would obviously look like Ratchet & Clank 7, but still, the PS5 is a great piece of kit, and I'll be getting the PS5 Pro (or whatever it's called) on day one next year (I generally find the "Pro" designation silly... "RT", "Ti", or something else would make more sense).

Yes, okay, I'm happy for you, really.
The point is not whether it runs on an HDD or micro SD card (yes, it does) on a PC or a Steam Deck, and whether Nexxus has optimized the game well.
The debate really needs to focus on why Sony doesn't offer an equivalent handheld console where this game could run natively, allowing me, as a PS user who bought the game digitally, to access it on the go without an internet connection. This PC port is completely useless to me as a PS user; it's more of an advertisement for the Steam Deck than for Q Lite or the PS platform itself. Personally, I wouldn't buy a PS5 Pro or PS6 if I could turn back time to before the PS5's release. Knowing what I know now, I would have invested my €400 in a Steam Deck instead.
That's okay, everyone has their own opinion ✌️

Oh boy, just admit that you were wrong AGAIN and thus reveal your ignorance.
The way you're trying to be right, even though the facts in the Digital Foundry video are clear, is truly absurd. But come on, I'll list them for you here:
1) The lowest PC spec was tested with a 7.200RPM HDD. With the PS4's 5.400rpm drive, the game dropped to 1 FPS. So are you saying that every PS4 owner MUST install a 7.200RPM HDD or SSD to play Ratchet & Clank?

Furthermore, in the space level, you can clearly see how the frame rate drops to as low as 14 FPS at the first crystal (the one that allows the dimensions to change). You think that's good? It's nice that your standards are so low. Then please never complain about the PS5's performance again. EVERYONE should be happy that Insomniac Games said to themselves: "We know we'll sell significantly fewer games if we only release it on PS5, because there were far fewer PS5s on the market at launch. But we want to show OUR vision for this game. And we can even achieve that with 4K RT 60 FPS." Exactly what YOU and Pillermann are always demanding, Insomniac is delivering. And instead of saying, "Respect, that's truly an achievement that even a €3000 PC can barely manage (look at the reflections, textures, etc.)," there's just more complaining. THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!!

3) Even on a SATA SSD, the game doesn't run smoothly. So where did Insomniac Games rip YOU off here?
4) Even on a high-end PCIe 4.0 SSD, warps run slower than on the PS5. EXACTLY, because of the architecture! But you and Pillermann are the experts here 😀 Just like the authors of this website. Well, if you have a bad life otherwise, you have to take your frustration out on something like this 😀

5) And why are you starting with a handheld now? Nobody wants that. The PS Vita sold poorly, and the Steam Deck isn't exactly a bestseller either. Only Nintendo manages to consistently make it big. But they have a different target audience. If you want a handheld, buy the Switch or the Steam Deck. You're saying PS5 games will run great on them anyway. Well, then wait two years until they're released there, in 720p with frame rate drops to 30 or even 15 FPS. If that's what you're aiming for, then leave us alone. We're enjoying 4K 60 FPS WITH ray tracing for €500.
My gaming PC cost €2.500 (RTX3080, Ryzen 5800x3D, custom water cooling etc.) and doesn't handle the games any better.

And finally, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop writing here. This is completely unacceptable and just shows that you don't know ANYTHING, and I mean absolutely NOTHING. Thank you!

Very well put.
The discussion about why Sony doesn't have/need a handheld device is illustrated by the past and a comparison with Nintendo. And thankfully, they don't want to conquer mobile devices like Xbox... with subscriptions and microphones...

What would make sense is to use a PC version of the PS5 instead of just a PS5, I'd understand that, but the Steam Deck as a PS5 replacement, hahaha

Oh, and if anyone wants to accuse me of misunderstanding something, then just read this report here:

There's also a video showing it running on a PS4 HDD and a PC with slightly above minimum specs; yes, it runs at a snail's pace 😀
The guys at Digital Foundry tested the PS5 version on a high-end PC (4090c 16-core) and the results are astounding… they're also impressed and say the game is a technical showcase for the PS5. No lies from Insomniac/Sony…

At the time of its release, its performance surpassed that of PCs/SSDs of the time. I could explain the bottleneck with the motherboard and PCI buses, but you should just...
Insomniac celebrate what they have delivered so far and what they will deliver in the future; Sony's brilliant acquisition at a bargain price.

Thanks Sony! It's always nice to see that I wasn't a fan of PS for anything.

So, within the two years that the game has been on the market, you haven't had any fun with it?

It's not about the fact that we've already discussed this topic a thousand times.
The game shouldn't have been released for PC in the first place, especially when they rambled on in PR about it being "technically only possible on the PS5 thanks to the SSD".
And it will run on Steam Deck from the microSD card, and if that were possible, a PS4 version would also have been possible with the graphics from the reboot (which doesn't look that much worse). And of course, the game was fun even two years before, and it's still fun today, but that's beside the point.

Rehashing the same old topic is your core competency, isn't it? You wouldn't dare question that, would you?

Ask yourself how much bullshit Sony can spout and PS fanboys will still believe it.
