Polish developer Rebel Wolves plans to release free DLC for its upcoming dark fantasy RPG "The Blood of Dawnwalker" instead of paid add-ons. Studio head Konrad Tomaszkiewicz confirmed that the roadmap for these free expansions is currently being finalized.
Free DLCs as standard
The team around the former game director of "The Witcher 3" remains true to its principles. Instead of immediately asking players to pay again after the launch on September 3, 2026, Rebel Wolves is focusing on smaller, free DLCs.
The final decisions are still pending, but the direction is clear. It's about trust. The studio wants to...The Blood of Dawnwalker“Offer a roadmap that meaningfully expands the game after release without straining fans' wallets. A strong statement against the current industry trend.”
This trust is already paying off. Over 1,5 million players have already added the title to their wishlist. The studio knows that the community is extremely cautious with pre-orders these days and prefers to wait for reviews. Therefore, the game will be complete at launch, with the free DLCs being the icing on the cake, not core content added later.
Narrative sandbox instead of a license to make money
The game will be a narrative sandbox RPG in the style of classic Fallout titles, set in a Slavic world. But that's not all. Rebel Wolves is already planning an entire saga. Successors will explore other eras, cultures, and historical contexts. While the protagonist isn't immortal, he is extremely long-lived. Tomaszkiewicz draws a comparison to Interview with the Vampire. It sounds incredibly ambitious, but the team has the experience to pull it off.
The message is clear. No microtransactions for armor skins, no hidden costs at launch, but rather a focus on a well-rounded core game with free ongoing support. If the gameplay lives up to the philosophy, we can expect a real highlight in September.
