Behind an exclusive release like forspoken on PS5 last January or the one released today redfall High expectations are usually associated with the Xbox Series X|S. Neither title has been able to meet these expectations, which has led to lively discussions among players.
As soon as the first reviews were published, redfall Online reviews highlighted the biggest weaknesses of Arkane's shooter. These include the rather clumsy AI, poorly implemented mechanics, the strange co-op mode, and generally unimaginative ideas.
Redfall – What the reviews say
redfall This is considered a real low point for Arkane, from whom one would expect to learn more. Dishonored, Prey or Deathloop expected significantly better.
Among the worst ratings is the following:
"Between the half-baked gameplay loops, the repetitive open-world work, and the shockingly poor optimization, Redfall feels like a title still in its alpha phase, let alone a product intended to be a flagship version for Microsoft's premium subscription service."
Hey Poor Play 4/10
In the middle area, one adds:
"Redfall is ultimately an enjoyable experience thanks to the world, the enemies, and the gunplay itself, but overall it's also incredibly superficial. It's noteworthy that Redfall is launching on Xbox Game Pass. It feels like the game was designed for the service, with an easily digestible experience full of simple, mindless fun that's easy to move on from."
Game Rant 7/10
The title is well received by the Xbox fanbase, who come to the following conclusion:
"Redfall is fantastic in many ways. However, a few confusing design choices surrounding the co-op implementation and some frustrating technical issues hold it back. It's incredibly fun solo, but ridiculous in co-op. This may end up being Arkane's lowest-rated title, but it will be their most successful. Alone or with friends, Redfall is a game every fan of the genre should play."
XboxEra 8.5/10
On Metacritic lingers redfall Currently with a score of 63 from 35 reviews, where it will probably settle.
And what does Forspoken have to do with it?
For players, it's a reminder redfall to the immature release of forspoken (our review), which in January was still the great hope for the PS5 and suffered a landing just as hard as redfall laid down. Both games achieved a similar Metascore, even though the problems of forspoken were of a completely different nature.
This is now leading to lively discussions Among the players, some believe that both games would have benefited from more development time, while others have less hope that both games would have been significantly better as a result.
Others, however, see a silver lining in the disappointments: the games will soon be so cheap that any criticism of them will automatically become irrelevant. Elsewhere, that's called "drinking yourself into thinking it's a bad thing!"
Hye phill has a white handheld in the background; it's either the Asus device or Xbox is building a native one.
Let's be honest, the problem is also the fanboys on both sides. First, they hype the games as must-haves for their respective platforms, even though the games are likely below average, and then the disappointment is huge when they don't live up to expectations. Sure, Xbox fans grab at any Game Pass exclusive, but PlayStation fans do the same when it comes to square exclusives.
The square that exists today is not the same as in the PS1 & 2 era.
One GAAS flop after another, they want to invest in NFTs, the FF7 universe is being exploited with expensive, useless fan merchandise like no other IP in the world because they know that once the remake is fully released, they have no guaranteed sources of income.
Therefore, this blind trust in Forspoken or in FF16 is, in my view, unfounded.
For me, square Konami 2.0 has negative connotations.
In a few years, Bethesda will be a mere shadow of its former self. Microsoft has no idea how to run studios, let alone publishers. I think Bethesda will buy itself out of Microsoft's hands sooner or later, just like Bungie did.
Bungie, however, was under different management and bound by a 10-year contract. At that time, Microsoft wasn't so open; that only came after the bombshell and subsequent leadership change in 2013. Nadella opened Microsoft up and made it possible for Microsoft products to appear not only on its own platforms. Bungie probably wouldn't have left back then; they wanted to be independent, which was under Steve Ballmer never left.
Well, what I'm getting at is that Microsoft emphasizes that they give studios the freedom to work independently. If that's true, then the blame lies more with Bethesda. On the other hand, it's rather embarrassing that a studio that has only released good games so far is now releasing something like this under the Microsoft banner…
The thing is, it's unfinished and buggy. Updates might fix that. But I find Forspoken far worse. The voice acting has terrible dialogue, the character is unlikeable, and the story writing is awful.
…, bad gameplay
The thing is, even if Redfall eventually improves through updates, nobody will care anymore. The train has left the station. Microsoft really didn't do themselves any favors here. Maybe they should actually take a closer look at their games; after all, they don't exactly cover themselves in glory when it's such a flop, like this one.
My guess is that they were aware of the game's problems and didn't want to waste any more resources on it, hoping there wouldn't be any major issues so that a small team could keep the game alive and eventually pull the plug when it was beyond saving. Perhaps they didn't want to cancel or postpone it because they saw no future in the title, allowing the main team to focus on other projects.
Let's see…
All in all, both are completely pointless games… Not worth your time.
There's no point even discussing Forspoken; it's pure garbage. I don't want to bash Bethesda either; they were my favorite American publisher before the acquisition.
MS Studios are so incredibly awful… First, they don't release a game for ages, and then they come out with something like this.
Only one thing comes to mind:
Who cares? 🙂
I can't get drunk on Forspoken. I'd rather play Infamous Second Sun.
It looks better, the hero moves just as agilely (better), and the city is very lively.
I don't understand the hype for Redfall either. Vampire themes don't sell well, and then there's the multiplayer first-person shooter. Nobody needs that; both games failed because of their own hype-driven marketing.
Hm, well, as you say, you can't drink yourself into a false sense of security.
I'm not sure about Redfall yet; it's not good, but not as bad as Forspoken... both are games you can ignore.
Yes, that's the problem with these two games; if you haven't played them, you haven't missed anything.
