Remedy Entertainment is optimizing the technical foundation of "Control Ultimate Edition" and "Alan Wake 2" for the PS5 Pro. Support for the updated PSSR 2 version should improve image stability and motion sharpness on the Sony console.
After Sony announced a revised version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) at the end of February, the first third-party developers are following suit. Remedy is now using the technology from "Project Amethyst"—a collaboration between Sony and AMD—for its two flagship titles.
The goal is to achieve higher visual fidelity in challenging environments such as the “Oldest House” or “Bright Falls”, with a primary focus on reducing artifacts and providing a clearer representation in motion.
New settings options for users
In addition to integrating the improved algorithm, a new system tool called "Enhance PSSR Image Quality" is being introduced. This tool allows PS5 Pro players to manually check and potentially sharpen the upscaling quality of compatible titles. While "Resident Evil Requiem" was the first to benefit, "Control" and "Alan Wake 2" will be among the first titles to take advantage of these enhanced features starting in March 2026. However, an exact release date for the corresponding patches is still pending.

Support for the latest PSSR version is a logical step for hardware-intensive titles like "Alan Wake 2." The benefit lies clearly in improved image stability—an area where early upscaling methods often fell short. Availability is tied to the PS5 Pro; owners of the standard hardware will not receive these specific graphics updates.
Besides "Alan Wake 2" and "Control", "Gran Turismo 7" also appears to have retained PSSR 2 support. Users posts that the image quality on the PS5 Pro has improved significantly since update 1.68. Visual artifacts and the typical shimmering on fences are gone. The image is finally stable.
Both titles are still unplayed on my PS5 Pro and I can hardly wait for when the time comes.
Awesome, I'm really curious to see what Alan Wake 2 will look like.
When will the update be released?
