Capcom unveils Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake at Summer Game Fest. The first trailer showcases significant graphical upgrades. Release is planned for 2027.

Capcom has officially announced the remake of "Resident Evil: Code Veronica" and narrowed down the release date to 2027. The reveal took place today at the Summer Game Fest, after months of rumors about the project.

Graphical leap and old strengths

The reveal trailer shown was simply titled "Resident Evil: Veronica“And it confirmed exactly what fans of the classic survival horror era have been waiting for. What was on display was a completely overhauled visual style based on Capcom's current RE Engine. The cutscenes and first gameplay snippets show significantly sharper textures, modern lighting effects, and smooth performance. This is desperately needed. The original from 2000 suffered massively from its outdated tank controls.”

The story will likely remain unchanged. Players will once again take on the role of Claire Redfield, who, while searching for her brother Chris in Paris, is captured and taken to Rockfort prison. Following an attack, the T-virus breaks out there. The trailer already hinted at the dark atmosphere of the facility and the later Antarctic base. The infamous Ashford twins also made a brief appearance.

This is what we've been waiting for.

This is the hit the community needed. Many fans consider "Resident Evil Veronica" the true third installment in the main series, but it often went unnoticed on the Sega Dreamcast. Capcom's decision to pick up where it left off, instead of jumping straight to part 5, shows a genuine understanding of the lore. The revamped graphics perfectly capture the oppressive atmosphere.

The problem is the wait. There's still a long way to go until 2027, during which Capcom needs to maintain the suspense. After all, a release window isn't a firm date. Nevertheless, for hardcore fans, this announcement is an absolute treat.

The original thrived on its extreme difficulty and brutal backtracking. Should Capcom significantly modernize the gameplay for the remake or retain the hardcore old-school vibe?

I'm really excited for the game, but I'm worried again that half the content will be missing, like with the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. Code Veronica also had some unique features regarding its scope, etc., and I could easily imagine Capcom cutting corners again. That would be a real shame, but we'll see.

The image of Claire in the preview looks terrible. She looks like either a man or a woman who's had a bad plastic surgeon. That's not Claire to me… I'm curious to see what she looks like in the game. I really like the Claire from the animated films, and the Claire from Revelations 2 was great too, etc…

If the game doesn't cut half the content and Claire looks "normal" in-game, it could be great. Either way, I'm definitely looking forward to it and am excited.

After the partial disappointment of Resident Evil Requiem, Code Veronica can only get better (yes, I just said that xD)

Capcom has become the Michael Jackson of the gaming industry.

How many awesome titles did you want to deliver!?

"YES!"

The Monster Hunter DLC also looked exciting, and of course Tifa in SF6^^
With this entire package, Capcom is showing the whole industry how it's done. Instead of pointless navel-gazing, they're delivering one banger after another.

That looked awesome! At first, I thought it was some indie horror game or something from the East. I only realized it was HUNK. It also didn't have the typical RE Engine features. I have to say, Capcom delivered as always; all that's missing is the Requiem DLC.

I realized it at the latest when I got to the hallway and saw the door leading to the hallway and the railing xD

It looked extremely like Resident Evil. Only Claire looks really awful in the picture that's circulating everywhere… I'm curious to see if they actually go with that look.
