One of the major problems with VR is motion sickness, which can make players feel quite nauseous. This is a condition that varies greatly from player to player and is also difficult to resolve.

With 'Resident Evil 7', one of the first AAA games that can theoretically be played from beginning to end with PlayStation VR is about to be released. Whether this actually works in practice remains to be seen. Spending several hours wearing a VR headset will certainly be a challenge. Producer Masachika Kawata explained how Capcom addressed the motion sickness issues in a current interview as follows:

“This is something we're working on a lot with Sony. We feel we're able to reach a point where both Sony and we can be very happy with it. We've been able to make a lot of adjustments. For example, we've ensured that the camera doesn't move on its own when using VR. Some other things we've implemented are giving the player a lot of options. For example, when it comes to player movement, we've made sure it's a highly subjective experience.”

In Resident Evil 7, players will be able to create their own personalized VR setup to achieve the best possible experience. Even the default configuration makes a good impression, as demonstrated in a brief test run. On the other hand, you'll need nerves of steel to complete the entire game in VR.

Resident Evil 7 will be released on January 24, 2017.
