That Microsoft's acquisition of Activision/Blizzard will ultimately go through is now more than likely. The fear is that this will then lead to... Call of Duty It will one day no longer be released for PlayStation, even though Microsoft has claimed otherwise so far.
Therefore, PlayStation fans are giving a lot of thought to which shooter series Call of Duty It could be replaced. One might naturally assume that Sony would partner with EA and the BattlefieldSony could combine its own shooter franchises, but it basically has enough of its own shooter brands that it could bring back.
Fans want this shooter back.
Among the fans there is also a clear favorite, who surprisingly is not Killzone This is shown by a survey on ResetEra, the next Killzone credentials for Resistance-series and the SOCOM-offer a choice for a franchise.
Should Sony consider reactivating one of the three brands, fans believe it should Resistance be the one that over 41 percent of respondents supported. This is followed by Killzone with currently 33 percent of the votes and in the end SOCOM, which still managed to garner 25 percent of the votes.
Killzone last appeared at the launch of the PlayStation 4, while Resistance It's a true PS3-era franchise that spawned three main installments and several spin-offs. All three were commercially successful, which makes it hard to understand why the brand isn't being continued.
Killzone A similar fate later befell it, which Sony surprisingly no longer wants to produce and apparently also has no interest in it. What SOCOM As far as that's concerned, there have always been occasional occurrences. Reports for a return, but so far nothing has come of it.
Whether Sony will be swayed by these demands from fans is far from certain. So far, they have not commented further.
Which shooter would you like to see again?

I'm disappointed with Sony regarding the franchises or "horses" they're now completely betting on: Horizon, God of War, and Spider-Man. Certainly very good games, but the focus on fantasy or Marvel is one thing, but what else is there? Apparently, apart from Gran Turismo, not much, which takes forever to mature. Only Ratchet & Clank stands out as a positive example.
Why is there no movement on Sony's "inactive" shooters? 2023 is proving to be a rather weak year for Sony. Maybe a Spider-Man 2 towards the end *yawn*. So the question is, why is Sony completely scrapping entire franchises like Resistance, Killzone, or even Days Gone 2 or SOCOM/Wipeout, for example? It's simply a shame, almost a disgrace, that so many classic franchises from the PS2/PS3 era are more or less dead.
I'm afraid they simply don't have the studios/capacity anymore, at least that's what I suspect.
Sure, CoD is the most lucrative game that will soon no longer be available on PS, but screw that garbage. Games like Diablo, Crash Bandicoot, Tony Hawk's, Overwatch, Spyro, Guitar Hero, etc., won't be coming back either. A new Socom, which used to be extremely popular and successful, or a new Killzone won't change anything. Sony should do what Microsoft did: buy publishers and leave Microsoft high and dry.
There are plenty of new Crash Bandicoot games coming out, including part 4 and Team Rumble. New Tony Hawk games are also being released regularly. And Diablo 4 is coming this year too. So your statement that "nothing new is coming out" is completely wrong. What you mean is that new installments might not be released on the PS5, but all the titles mentioned are/were definitely coming to the PS5. Everything else is just speculation.
So, they are generally coming, but the topic here is different: What inactive shooters does Sony have up its sleeve, and why is there no progress? Microsoft has released Halo and GoW in recent years, while Sony has done nothing and apparently doesn't intend to.
So the question is, why is Sony completely scrapping entire franchises like Resistance, Wipeout (!) and even Killzone? In a weak year for Sony like this, it's a legitimate question. Ah yes, those were the days when multiple Resistance and Killzone games were released on a single console…
Well, Piller isn't wrong; who can guarantee that new Crash and Spyro parts will be released after the takeover?
Sony is only complaining about Call of Duty and the associated revenue the game generates through microtransactions.
But what's in it for us PS fans?
Aside from Ratchet and Clank and Astro, no real mascots have been established for the PlayStation brand. They always do the same thing: a third-person action-adventure game with RPG elements in an open world and lots of rainbow-colored ingredients.
My daughter has already played through Astro's Playroom countless times and asks me why there isn't a DLC or a second part.
What I mean to say is that Sony has focused too much on one target group; it already has Ubisoft characteristics (the Sony formula).
And apart from GT7, there's no variety. Younger players have been completely forgotten.
Your daughter? The way you express yourself, I thought until today that you were about 13-14 years old.
Haha
Of course, one can immediately deduce the age, origin, gender and preferably also the education level from the writing style in order to reinforce one's own prejudices.
Or you can simply ask the person.
Of course, one can deduce "some" things.
(Spoilers) And you don't come out of it well.
Well, you should know, people like you who think like that say more about themselves than about others.
That's called understanding people! It exists in the real world!
Your sentence makes absolutely no sense again! But Pippi Longstocking makes it up like that…
But what's funny is that you and your ilk haven't really responded to the statements objectively, nor have you proven or refuted any of the arguments. So there you go.
You're already doing that! You have an opinion on every topic, whether anyone wants to read it or not! And you never stay objective. I gave up trying to discuss anything with you a long time ago. I might as well talk to a loaf of bread.
Amen! 😀
Crydog, I agree, Sony just lets brands go to waste and apparently decides for ridiculous reasons whether or not to release sequels or DLC. Who on earth decides that at Sony? Strictly speaking, it should be the gamers who decide, it's that simple.
There are brands that you don't abandon because they are part of the company's identity (Nintendo understands this in my opinion, MS a little too), only Sony is obviously throwing them all away one after the other.
Perhaps a new Medal of Honor would be nice again; I always thought all the games were great, starting with the first one.
EA owns the rights to the series. At least, that was the case previously.
A SOCOM would be great! It's still relatively new, and many people don't even seem to know about it. On PS2, it introduced voice control of NPC members in your own unit via microphone, and back then, it was a revolution from Sony! "Bravo, go to Echo!" Those were the days... CoD is just the same old shooter in a new guise with a few different weapons anyway. Blizzard would be a real loss in Microsoft's hands! But money talks!
Resistance was really fun gameplay-wise, but visually it wasn't all that great…
I think Socom offers the best realistic setting to rival CoD! A completely new development by Guerrilla Games would be a dream. Add to that first- and third-person perspectives and a destructible environment. Choose whether you want to play on small or large maps, and voilà, the CoD killer!
Resistance, please. Thanks. I don't even know Socom. 🙂
The last Killzone installment didn't convince me.
Killzone 2 and 3 were awesome! Especially (at least for me) the second one…
Killzone 2, 3 and Mercenaries are the best.
The PS4 game Shadowfall, or whatever it was called, didn't appeal to me at all.
Ideally, all three should be used alternately, but for me personally, it's a kill zone.
Killzone has the best art design, lore, and stands out well enough to exist as a standalone franchise.
Socom looks like a no-name/modded game.
Resistance is set too far in the future because of the weapons.
I could easily imagine Resistance as a third-person shooter, Gears of War-style killer.
No matter what Sony chooses, you should invest money in the story campaign.
Good aiming or battle passes are good for sales, but no guarantee that players from the mainstream, outside of multiplayer, will feel drawn to the product. Killzone also has the advantage that one can potentially draw parallels to Horizon, due to strikingly similar art style, for example, with the Deathbringer.
