It's starting to feel more and more like a slap in the face how Sony is treating PS5 players while increasingly fawning over PC gamers. Aside from the fact that we still have to wait for long-since-made promises, the frustration is becoming more justified every day.

The occasion is the release date announced today for return for the PC, which comes with all sorts of graphical extras, including support for Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR for a "an improved visual experience".

While this might be acceptable given the often superior specs on PC, forcing PS5 players to use their own 3D sound without offering any options is bordering on mocking their own customers and those who bring in the money.

In the Announcement regarding Dolby Atmos support Sony writes:

"The auditory atmosphere is enhanced by support for 'Dolby Atmos,' which brings the audio and soundtrack to life in a new way. Enjoy the award-winning audio and music via Dolby Atmos, two 3D audio solutions, or 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound."

Sony should finally deliver on its promises.

All of this would be only half as bad if Sony finally delivered on its promise to extend its 3D audio format from PS5 to soundbars and home theater systems; that's what we're hearing. for over a year However, nothing more is said, and the topic is simply ignored.

The fact that it's now possible to integrate Dolby Atmos into games and pay the corresponding licensing fees is simply incomprehensible and frustrating for PS5 players. Dolby Atmos is, after all, the more established of the two formats and has largely found its way into home gaming setups.

The question is, what is Sony waiting for with Dolby Atmos, with full 3D audio on PS5, with all the promises that were made almost 3 years ago?

Until Sony complies, Returnal can be enjoyed on PC from February 15th.

Seriously, Sony, this is getting ridiculous. Bring 3D audio to consoles already. And not just for PC.
The Xbox has been doing it for a long time.

For PC players, and also extra content without mods.
You're making yourself increasingly obsolete.
The PC gamer will probably buy a PS5 to play the stripped-down version.
Furthermore, I'll laugh myself silly if the game runs on the Steam Deck; so much for the idea that SSDs are only possible on the PS5.

Well, the PCIe 4.0 SSDs for PCs are just as fast as the PS5's since they use the same interface. I have a 980 Pro myself that reads at 6995 MB/s.
Time will tell whether Sony will fully exploit this potential, just like Star Citizen on PC, which benefits immensely from the speed of SSDs.

Yes, but there is a Steam Deck version without an SSD, and if it runs on that, then that's the end of Sony's story about online play on PS5 being possible because of SSD speed.

This really shows how limited some people's horizons can be. It's sad that they can't pursue their hobby and share it with others.

True words. This unbelievable lack of knowledge is simply embarrassing.

Incredibly low knowledge is an even better description. 🙂

He's not entirely wrong. Sony isn't doing itself, and therefore us gamers, any favors by releasing its games on other platforms and then implementing technologies there that aren't yet available on its own platform, but could easily be implemented if it wanted to.
At the same time, this "other platform" is buying up all sorts of highly successful publishers and preventing their releases (presumably, why else would they buy a studio?) on the PS5.

Or perhaps they lied and 3D audio over HDMI isn't technically possible on the PS5. If that's the case, they should come clean. That would be difficult, though, since they heavily promoted 3D audio before the PS5's release.

Those are true words from you, bro. Thank you.
They all act like I'm a loser, like I have no other hobbies. I'm actually advocating for their interests, but hey, if you keep letting yourself be taken for a ride like this as a consumer, you shouldn't be surprised when our hobby of gaming eventually becomes a joke.

You're acting as if 90 out of 100 players have a PC more powerful than the PS5. Almost 65% of players are still using 1080p.

No, I'm not pretending, but who has the right to play the game on max settings?
1080p and 60fps are enough for me. Also, read my comment; it was about the fact that if the game runs on a Steam Deck without an SSD, then it's not a next-gen game for me. Read first, then understand, and then you can text me.
