Bloober Team is releasing "SAW: Genesis," an asymmetrical 3v1 multiplayer project that plunges us directly into the post-World War I era. One player takes on the role of the judge, while three defendants fight for their survival.
Deadly judgments from the shadows
The studio eschews the genre's typical gameplay patterns. The judge isn't an all-powerful slasher who simply mows down his victims; he's physically vulnerable. His strength lies in stealthy manipulation, perks, and precisely placed traps. This forces strategic thinking.
On the other side is the cooperation of the three defendants. You collect keys, solve puzzles, and fight against the relentlessly ticking clock. The key lies in the characters' declining willpower. If this value drops too low, you end up in the infamous rehabilitation traps.
Painful consequences
This is where the game reveals its nasty side. Anyone trapped has to make a choice: either sacrifice a body part for a quick escape or wait for rescue by the team. Every decision leaves lasting damage for the rest of the round. An injured arm makes solving puzzles more difficult, a broken leg turns you into a limping duck.
The development will be “SAW: Genesis"A joint project by Anshar Studios and Broken Mirror Games. So far, the project has only been announced for PC. Whether a console version will follow remains unclear. However, with a purely multiplayer title, this is extremely likely, as the player base simply dies too quickly these days without cross-play."
The concept sounds quite original. The gameplay consequences of mutilations could add a tactical depth that "Dead by Daylight" or "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" lack. Whether the balance between the vulnerable judge and the victims works, however, remains to be seen.
