Ubisoft has planned Season 4 of Skull and Bones The biggest endgame challenge yet has been unveiled: the Kraken. This sea monster is not an optional spectacle, but rather designed as an endgame event – with clear requirements for coordination, builds, and time management.
In the current preview, the developers describe it as the toughest challenge yet set in the Indian Ocean. And the raw numbers bear this out: roughly 500 meters in length, a combat radius of about 300 meters, and around three million hit points. This puts the Kraken significantly ahead of well-known bosses like the Kingpin Strongholds. However, the crucial factor isn't raw health, but rather the design of the fight itself.
A boss who controls the entire battlefield
The Kraken breaks with the previous monster mechanics in Skull and BonesInstead of focusing on individual ships, it acts "omnipotently"—all players are under constant pressure. According to the development team, this was precisely the goal. Not a pure DPS check, but a multi-phase combat system that consistently punishes mistakes.
The ten-minute time limit is no coincidence. The Kraken is meant to remain intense and not devolve into a drawn-out, attritional battle. Those who play inefficiently or combine builds incorrectly won't fail due to a lack of damage, but rather due to a lack of control.
Phases, pressure, and real escalation
The first two phases rely on classic tentacle attacks and so-called ink shooters. The poison clouds force movement and prevent sustained, stationary fire – a clear departure from previous bosses.
In phase three, the Kraken dives and transforms the battlefield into a survival test. Whirlpools render ships unmaneuverable, while the team remains under constant time pressure. Only in the final phase do its glowing eyes reveal themselves as critical weak points. Simultaneously, two mega-tentacles enter the fray, capable of sinking even large ships in seconds. Precision and positioning determine victory or wipe.
Team play is mandatory, not optional.
A solo kill is explicitly not planned for the start of Season 4. The Kraken is a classic "call to arms" activity for at least three players – matchmaking included. The focus is on the new corvette. The ship is more maneuverable than a frigate and offers real added value with its perk. Each hit increases the target's damage taken by up to 20 percent for the entire team. This is complemented by dedicated healer builds and weapons like torpedoes, which are effective against the massive tentacles.
The Kraken isn't a 30-times-mandatory fight like other endgame activities. Instead, it drops high-end materials and an exclusive Kraken Slayer cosmetic set. According to the developers, the focus here is intentionally on quality rather than grinding.
Whether the event is sustainable in the long run depends on fine-tuning, as bugs, balance, and matchmaking will be crucial. The idea of later incorporating random encounters or smaller Kraken variants sounds exciting. Whether it will be viable in everyday life remains to be seen. Skull and Bones It works, we'll have to see in season 4.
What do you all mean: Finally, a true endgame – or too much coordination required for a live service game?
