Sony is primarily using the GDC currently taking place in San Francisco to attract new indie developers to the PlayStation platforms.

This has been quite difficult so far, as Sony, as the platform owner, had sole control over whether a game would be released on PlayStation or not. Even a concept alone could be rejected. This is now changing, as the Japanese company has announced, and at least the 'concept approval' process will be eliminated in the future.

This should mean that significantly more smaller and, above all, more creative games will now find their way to PlayStation, games that might otherwise never have seen the light of day.

At the same time, 25 new indie titles were announced at GDC, including Blacklight: Retribution, Primal Carnage: Genesis, Limbo, Spelunky, Velocity Ultra, and various PlayStation Mobile games and applications.
