Although the release of 'Spider-Man' for PlayStation 4 is still a little while away, meaning the final specifications are not yet known, the developer Insomniac Games already has a rough idea of where the journey will eventually lead.

The game had its first test run at the last E3, where it was a comprehensive gameplay demo The PS4 Pro was used for this test. The Sony ZD9 UHD TV with HDR was used, representing the absolute premium class among Sony's current TV models. The tech experts at Digital Foundry investigated further and learned that Temporal Injection technology is employed, using 4 million jittered samples to simulate a 2160p frame and a 4K image.

Furthermore, it states:

"It's not native 4K, but the results are very close on a UHD screen, with a smooth and refined presentation. We're not looking for crystal clear or pin sharpness here, but the game aims for a CGI aesthetic that traditionally delivers a somewhat softer and smoother look, while still retaining a lot of detail."

Digital Foundry is convinced that Spider-Man is already compelling enough to compete with native 4K footage. The cinematic look is clearly evident, with hyper-realistic and natural qualities that permeate the characters and environments.

Since Spider-Man isn't released until sometime in the first half of 2018, there's still plenty of time to optimize the game. Insomniac Games might surprise us even more by then.
