Electronic Arts and DICE have as announced Update 2.0 for 'Star Wars: Battlefront II' has been released, primarily overhauling the progression system. Previously, this system was heavily criticized, mainly due to its microtransactions.

It was recently explained that since the game's release, extensive changes have been made based on community feedback to improve the player experience. Additionally, there will be some cosmetic changes in the game, which are detailed below:

  • Linear progress: Star cards and all other gameplay-affecting items can only be earned through gameplay and cannot be purchased. Instead, players receive experience points for the classes, hero characters, and ships available in multiplayer. Once enough experience points have been accumulated to level up a unit, the player receives a skill point, which can be used to unlock or upgrade the eligible star card to be equipped.
  • Unlocks and achievements: All star cards, heroes, weapons and other items that the player has already obtained will remain and can still be used after the update.
  • Modified boxes: Chests no longer contain Star Cards and cannot be purchased. After the update, chests will only be available for daily logins, completing milestones, and mastering timed challenges. The chests contain credits or cosmetic items such as emotes or victory poses, but no gameplay-relevant content.
  • Cosmetic changes: Starting in April, appearances can be purchased directly with in-game credits or crystals. The first new skins will be released soon and can be obtained with credits earned in the game or crystals purchased in-game and from first-party stores. So, anyone who has ever wanted to join the Rodian resistance will soon have the opportunity.

Along with these changes, all currently available heroes and hero ships have been unlocked for all players. Since all characters now have a unit level, the developers wanted to avoid limiting the chance to progress by changing how players interact with these characters. Additionally, a new location has been released – Bespin returns from the first Star Wars Battlefront for Blast, Heroes vs. Villains, and for a limited time as Jetpack Cargo.
