The Star Wars brand no longer seems to be in the best hands at EA, after another project was scrapped, this time the open-world game from EA Vancouver.
EA Vancouver, which actually develops sports games like NHL, FIFA & Co., was saddled with a rather prestigious project, Star Wars, after the demise of Visceral Games. most recently oriented towards the open-world genre Before that, it was a linear experience, which the publisher also disliked, even though award-winning writers like Amy Hennig (Uncharted) contributed. Going back even further, the game originally started as Star Wars 1313, which was also promising but never actually came to fruition.
Development became too costly
Although no official details regarding the game's cancellation are yet available, according to industry insiders Development had become too complex and expensive, without anything tangible to present yet. The only downside is that this time no studio had to be closed. Instead, the studio will now focus on a game that will presumably be finished in 2020, coinciding with the launch of the next generation of consoles. This is said to be a smaller Star Wars project.
Respawn's remaining Star Wars project – Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – is still slated for release in 2019. May the Force be with this game, at least.
