The signs are increasing that Starfield Bethesda's sci-fi role-playing game could be officially announced for the PlayStation 5 very soon. According to a well-connected insider, the game is slated for release on April 7, 2026, for PS5 – in both a standard and a premium edition. This hasn't been confirmed, but the source is considered surprisingly reliable.
The information stamt from an insider GraczdariAccording to his own statement, he works in the European trade for physical games and has recently been correct several times, including regarding... Oblivion: Remastered, the Switch-2 port of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and the PS5 version of Microsoft Flight SimulatorNo guarantee, but enough substance to take a closer look.
Why now? The timing points to spring 2026.
That Starfield That it didn't arrive on the PS5 earlier is hardly surprising in retrospect. Reports from last year suggested that Bethesda deliberately delayed the port. The reason lies in the lackluster sales figures of the first expansion. Shattered Space.
Instead of a silent release, the PS5 version will now apparently launch alongside the second major expansion, including technical and gameplay improvements. From a player's perspective, this makes sense, as newcomers will receive a more polished version. For Bethesda, it's an opportunity to recalibrate the game's image.
Xbox strategy: Starfield as the final domino?
Starfield It's one of the last major Xbox first-party games without a confirmed PS5 port. However, the direction has been clear since February 2024: Microsoft wants to make its games more widely available. Titles like... pentiment, hifi rush, Sea of Thieves and Grounded They made a start, more followed or have been announced. In this context, a PS5 release from Starfield Less a taboo being broken than the next logical step.
As exciting as the prospect is, a few stumbling blocks remain. Starfield struggled at launch with performance issues, a slow start, and design choices that didn't appeal to everyone. The question isn't just whether the port will happen, but in what state.
A PS5 version needs to offer more than just higher resolution. Loading times, stability, and sensible adjustments for the DualSense controller will be crucial. If Bethesda handles this correctly, Starfield could indeed get a second chance on the PS5.
And you? Would you give Starfield 2026 another chance – or is that chapter long since closed for you?

I invested €110 in the Starfield Premium Edition back when the Series X was released, and I won't let something like that happen to me again. I doubt that the 2.0 update, which was missed and not implemented at launch, can "save" Bethesda's current game; for that, a complete overhaul of the gameplay and, above all, the narrative would be necessary.
Since I doubt that Bethesda under Microsoft has the resources (just let that sink in!) as well as the creative expertise, I don't think it will be a great success, even outsourced to a platform that is light years ahead of the Xbox brand, and it doesn't take a crystal ball to predict that The Elder Scrolls VI will suffer the same or a similar fate.
I'm sure there are some Playstation players who will enjoy it, and I'm happy for them, but objectively speaking, for me it was a complete flop and a testament to where the AAA industry has been headed in recent years.
