Right on schedule, Bethesda has released update 1.16.242 for "Starfield." Those hoping for groundbreaking new features will be disappointed. The patch is purely a cleanup effort. It focuses on the foundation: stability and eliminating logic errors that have disrupted gameplay for weeks.

The most important correction concerns the Crashes during automatic savingIn a game that demands hundreds of hours of progress, a crash during the save process is a complete disaster. Bethesda has fixed this critical bug, as well as instabilities related to the Creations menu and legacy data. This primarily stabilizes the PS5 version, which had suffered from these teething problems since its April launch.

Starfield Patch 1.16 in detail

The gameplay aspect of “Starfield"Improved. A curious bug where Muria mistakenly consumed ammunition is now a thing of the past. The fix to the mineral farms is particularly interesting: they no longer appear on Earth. Bethesda is cleaning up the procedural generation here to maintain consistency with the game's lore (the dead Earth)."

Additionally, two critical quest blockers have been removed. Both "Into the Void" and "Lone Wolf" can now be completed without script freezes. The fix for the neon landing in the Dax quest, in particular, will be a relief to many players who were stuck there.

Bethesda makes it clear that the work isn't finished. The studio has already announced the next cross-platform patch for June 2026. This suggests that after the current bug fixes, they will return next month to content additions or major performance optimizations.

  • Storage security: The critical crash that occurred when creating autosaves has been fixed.
  • Quest Rescue: The script errors in "Into the Void" and "Lone Wolf" are gone.
  • Creation stability: Crash causes related to legacy data and the menu have been removed.
  • Lore correction: Mineral farms no longer spawn erroneously on Earth.
  • June outlook: The next major update for all platforms has already been confirmed.

No glitz, no glory, just craftsmanship. Version 1.16.242 makes "Starfield" a safer experience. It's the foundation upon which the upcoming summer updates must be built.

Therefore, loading times when loading a saved game are now somewhat longer.
I'm happy to accept that.
I have 55 hours of playtime and have only had 4 crashes since then, which I think is pretty good. ^^

My impression and experience of Starfield has transformed from an initial "Meh!!" during its time on the Series X to "Hmmm!", then "Okay!", and finally "Simply sensational!!" by the time of its PS5 Pro launch. Now, Bethesda's latest title alternates between first and second place among the studio's best games.

The current patch will be extensively tested for suitability over the weekend.
