Two months after the PS5 launch, patch 1.000.006 for Starfield brings salvation against the annoying freezes and crashes during planet exploration.

Patch 1.000.006 for "Starfield" is intended to finally fix the severe crashes that occurred when exploring planets on the PS5. Two months after release, Bethesda is delivering the update, which should end the frustrating freezes in the open world.

The exploration dilemma is over.

The developers' main goal is to address a massive problem that has been bothering the community since April. The game regularly froze as soon as the player explored the surface of a planet.

Ironically, the core feature of "StarfieldThis made the game almost unplayable on the Sony console. Many players avoided exploration altogether to avoid crashes. An untenable situation for a cosmic role-playing game, which will hopefully now come to an end.

Besides the major exploration bug, the patch addresses other absurdities. Previously, placing a designer sofa or a data pad on your ship risked crashes and endless loading screens. The complete list of changes shows that Bethesda has worked on overall stability.

The most important patch notes at a glance

General

  • Fixed freeze when traversing planetary surfaces.
  • Cause of crash removed by placing a designer sofa on ships.
  • Fixed the endless loading screen issue when placing data pads on ships.
  • Fixed a bug where Black Box Incursions would not start or would reset.

Gameplay & UI

  • No more crashes when using the scanner at loading doors.
  • Fixed a bug where Quantum Essence could incorrectly be used via Favorites.
  • Faulty Incursion icons are removed from the star map after loading a saved game.
  • Fixed texture errors during character creation.

The most important fixes are only available two months after launch. This leaves a bad taste in the mouth. While Bethesda has patched some performance issues since the April release, the freezing problem during exploration should have been a top priority. The patch is a blessing for returning players, but it's too late for the trust of launch buyers.

Did you also struggle with the frequent freezes during planet exploration on the PS5, and were you able to enjoy the game at all because of the crashes?

...and the performance in critical areas and situations. It's running much more smoothly now than at release.

It's great that Bethesda has improved this!
