Sony could schedule the next State of Play for the next two weeks, but is keeping the exact date unusually secret due to tactical shifts in the industry.
Industry insiders like NatetheHate reportedly already have a rough timeframe for the event, which traditionally marks the start of PlayStation’s second-half software lineup. Concrete date leaks, however, have yet to surface this time around.
Taking all of this into account, realistically, the next PlayStation presentation should take place between the end of May and the beginning of June, as Sony needs to use the tight timeframe before the Summer Game Fest to structure its software lineup.
GTA 6 is blocking the marketing plans of third-party developers
The unusual lack of information surrounding this State of Play stands in sharp contrast to previous showcases. Last September’s event leaked roughly five weeks ahead of schedule, while February’s presentation surfaced around four weeks early. This time, however, the industry appears to be operating under unusually tight secrecy.
The reason for this is "GTA 6." The Rockstar title is absorbing so much media attention that other publishers are meticulously timing their announcements. No one wants to risk a multi-million dollar campaign that becomes worthless the next day with a new GTA trailer. This market-wide caution means that information about release dates and trailers is now extremely restricted. Communication channels with Sony are tighter than ever before.
Sony's summer showdown forces the June release date
The platform holder is still under pressure. The summer timeframe is strategically crucial for Sony to fill the gap left by the canceled E3 and prepare for the Christmas season. The focus will likely be on which third-party manufacturers, despite the overshadowing of GTA, have the courage to show footage. For Sony, the show is the only chance to maintain control over summer media coverage.
The State of Play event will take place, and the timeframe appears to be set. Gamers should expect official announcements to be made at extremely short notice this year. For PS5 owners, this show will determine whether the second half of the year will be packed with substantial new games or whether Sony will rest on its laurels after hardware sales.
Oh no, and yet another ton of anime, Dark Souls, PS1 and PS2 announcements – things that call themselves games 🥹🥹🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
@Cheese & @Crydog This just shows you have absolutely no clue about gaming. Regardless of your taste, the release of GTA 6 will simply be a historic moment that will either save or destroy gaming.
No, we have no idea, but I don't care about the game.
That's true, and it's your right. But so are millions of other people. The world doesn't revolve around you, you can understand that, right?
Sure, but I hope you can also understand that not everything should revolve around GTA 6 ;)
Well, the gaming industry is currently focused on GTA6 and its approaching release, whether it should be or not is another question. Billion-dollar companies are avoiding the GTA6 release because they don't want to go under, but everyone needs to know that you're not interested in GTA6. Great attitude.
What will happen if it flops? Judgment Day? Will NVIDIA shut down all GPUs?
Is Microsoft banning gaming from Windows?
Are AMD consoles exploding?
Save or destroy gaming? Perhaps save Rockstar shareholders the dividend, but gaming is bigger than a single game.
I'll be glad when it's finally released and all the content creators pounce on it and milk it for all it's worth, everyone obsessively writing something about it, I'll just ignore it because it's annoying how overhyped it is and hopefully the whole thing will be over in a few weeks.
What are you talking about, haha? You accuse others of not knowing anything about gaming, but you think GTA 6 will either save or destroy gaming xD Gaming neither will nor will it be saved or destroyed by GTA 6.
A simple glance at the industry would be enough to see that the entire sector is in crisis. Everyone is cutting jobs or backing the wrong horse (Live Services, Game Pass). On top of that, there are occasional chip or memory shortages, making hardware unaffordable or causing delays, like with the Steam Machine. GTA and Rockstar have set new standards in every generation, whether graphically or in terms of gameplay. They've always been pioneers. If, as rumored, a $2 billion development cost results in a flop, believe me, the entire gaming industry will feel the tremors. And if it turns out to be as good as expected, there will be many imitators, and everyone will be eager for a new GTA-like game. What am I even saying? Everything I've predicted so far has come true.
What a load of rubbish.
GTA6 is one of the most boring games to be released this year, in my opinion.
I'd rather play the lawn wax simulator.
It'll happen one way or another. But it's ridiculous that there's so much talk about GTA 6, as if there were no other games. Of all the announcements shown at State of Play or with Jeff Bezos, GTA 6 interests me the least. How can you hold yourself hostage like that over one game? I'd laugh my head off if it flops. Maybe some platform owners will consider that it would be good to have their own content and not be so dependent on others.
