The next State of Play The release is imminent, and rarely have expectations been so contradictory. Between rumors about PSSR 2.0, the PS5 Pro, and the PlayStation Portal OLED, there's a surprising amount of speculation. It's not a leak frenzy, but rather a complex web of rumors that has been building for months, revealing what fans are hoping for.

Time for a thought experiment: What could Sony show without breaking the internet, and why would that make sense right now? A lot has piled up in recent months, not in terms of announcements, but in terms of unanswered questions. Questions about the PS5 Pro, ongoing projects, and Sony's medium-term strategy. A State of Play doesn't have to answer all of that at once. But it could start bringing some order to this silence.

PSSR 2.0 for the PS5 Pro

Let's start with the technical aspects. PSSR 2.0 for the PS5 Pro is something many are already celebrating, and everyone is expecting. The Pro console needs more than just "It runs a bit more stably"An improved upscaling would not be a revolution, but rather damage control in the competition with DLSS and similar technologies. No big marketing blitz, more of a sober segment: before-and-after clips, developer quotes, and that's it. Exactly Sony's comfort zone."

Much more exciting: the God of War 2.5D project that's been circulating for weeks. It sounds sacrilege at first, but it's actually quite clever. Kratos in page-turn format wouldn't be a replacement for the next epic, but rather a stylistic departure – smaller, more focused, and cheaper. Sony has enough prestige to get away with something like that. And honestly: a compact God of WarA spin-off would currently be more credible than the next "We are working on it"-Film.

PlayStation Portal OLED, Pulse Elevate & Co.

Sony is more likely to refine the hardware than surprise it. PlayStation Portal with OLED display It wouldn't be a wow moment, but a clear admission: the current model is wasting potential. OLED would be the logical correction – nothing more, nothing less. Those who need it would buy it. Those who don't, would ignore it. That's PlayStation for you.

The same applies to the Pulse Elevate loudspeakersAccessories, yes – but cleverly placed. Sony is consistently expanding its living room ecosystem: headsets, controllers, handhelds, and now desktop speakers. The latest quarterly report has shown that the PC market plays an extremely important role for Sony. The Elevate speakers have long been announced and are essentially just waiting for their debut, primarily to attract PC gamers. The same applies to the matching monitor, which has also been more of a rumor than a product for months.

Marathon, Saros and PlayStation Plus

The official announcement of [missing information] is also likely to be a key event. PlayStation Plus for February Sony is under pressure after a rather mixed few months. In recent days, there have been indications that... Marvel's Spider-Man 2 It could become part of the lineup. This isn't confirmed, but if the leak proves true, it would be a clear statement. Not just a must-see, but a subscriber moment with real weight.

In terms of content, it will be about Marathon Seriously. Bungie is about to release in March and finally owes us some clarity: What kind of game is it? Marathon Actually? A detailed gameplay look, a developer deep dive, or final details would be enough to answer the open questions; nothing more is needed to gain trust.

And then there is saros – the project that for a long time was more myth than tangible game. Initial gameplay impressions already exist, and now new ones could follow. Any sign of life would be enough: perhaps another trailer, a look at details, or even the announcement of a collector's edition or a limited-edition controller.

Time to deliver

Ultimately, the focus remains on exciting third-party and indie titles for the PS5. This clearly indicates that this time it's not just about blockbusters, but also about creative niches and fresh ideas in the lineup.

  • Would that be a legendary State of Play? Maybe.
  • Would it be a sensible thing to do? Absolutely.
  • And that alone might be surprise enough.

Of course, this isn't a guarantee, but rather a wish list, a thought experiment about what we'd like to see at the State of Play. Nevertheless, it shows that Sony has the chance to finally deliver. Between PSSR 2.0, God of War 2.5D, PlayStation Portal OLED, and the other potential highlights, there's enough material to excite fans and meet expectations.

So, anyone who has been eagerly awaiting news for months should feel free to get excited; the State of Play could be more than just a mandatory event this time. It starts at 23 pm!

I mainly use it for Capcom and Final Fantasy VII Part 3 content, or other third-party games. What could Sony possibly offer? The Super OLED Portal, which still doesn't have Bluetooth. The Super Marvel Tokon Rooster with 20 figures, which is too few for a 4v4 game at €80. God of War 2.5D—yes, the series is known for its 2D perspective. Sorcery is only interesting to me if it's more accessible, or it's just bad luck anyway; I'll be playing Pragmata during that time. Well, that only leaves Wolverine, we'll see. Some actual gameplay would be nice.

Sounds (to me personally) extremely boring.
Again and again Soulslikes, again and again the same IPs, again and again service games…

If things continue like this, I won't need to think about the Steam Machine for much longer...

Oh, and IPs we're waiting for are simply no longer being served…
Killzone, Resistance… and several more.

I'll definitely be there at 23 PM; this year's State of Play sounds very promising. Sony has some strong titles lined up for 2026 as well, just like last year, even though their focus has shifted significantly towards live services in recent years. I'm still missing out on that aspect, as there have always been some very strong titles being presented simultaneously.

I'm most curious to see what kind of performance increase PSSR 2.0 will offer and when it will finally be released. I have countless unplayed titles that would potentially benefit from it, and it would also be one of several additional selling points for the most powerful console hardware currently on the market, which, under the prevailing circumstances, will only further establish itself in the coming years.

I see the potential Portal Pro with its OLED display more as an addition for enthusiasts who want extra visual comfort on the couch. Many users today opt for a decent OLED display in TV format, to which the experience of the existing Sony Remote Player can be transferred at any time. Furthermore, the Portal, with its existing LCD display, delivers the very high picture quality and color brilliance typical of Sony. For my taste, this device, in combination with my LG G5, offers real added value with a completely legitimate price-performance ratio.

Looking forward to tonight!

The article is quite obviously written using AI. Since I can find no evidence of this, and an editor apparently lent their name to it, I find that very sad.

The only thing I'm interested in is: Will there ever be any major single-player titles, or is it all just about overpriced hardware, "service," streaming, and other things that are detrimental to consumers' wallets?

Exactly. Sony is getting more and more boring with the same old rubbish.

Your comments are getting more and more boring, especially when playing the same games.

And you have problems with spelling and punctuation. Now what?
Just don't read it and read a book instead.
