A breath of fresh air is currently blowing from EA, who are considered one of the biggest supporters of the online pass. Their own shooter, Syndicate, manages entirely without it.

Executive Producer Jeff Gamon explained it as follows: "We wanted as little resistance and barriers to entry as possible. The co-op is included in the price. We wanted everyone who buys a copy of the game to have access to the entire game."

Syndicate is likely to remain a major exception. Subsequent EA titles like Kingdoms of Amalur and SSX utilize the online pass again, even though they are purely offline games.

Syndicate will be released in Europe on February 23rd. A demo is available now on the PlayStation Store.
