Bandai Namco is bringing back "Tales of Eternia" as a remastered version on October 16, 2026. The action RPG will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and even the new Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher is thus continuing its "Tales of Remastered Project."
The story takes you on a journey through two separate worlds, Inferia and Celestia. You assume control of Reid Hershel and his childhood friend Faran Oersted. Their lives are thrown into turmoil when they encounter a mysterious girl who speaks a completely foreign language. While trying to unravel the mystery of her origins, the protagonists stumble upon a dark truth: the Great Fall is imminent. This means the absolute collision of the two worlds, and total annihilation looms.
Nostalgia meets comfort
The combat system remains true to its classic core. You brawl in fast-paced 2D battles using the aggressive Linear Motion Battle System. You chain together powerful artes and coordinate your team. That was incredibly fun even back then.
Bandai Namco has significantly improved the quality of life this time around. There are objective markers on the map, and you can completely disable enemy movement in the overworld. In addition, there's a high-speed mode for auto-battles. This saves time. A lot of time.
The developers also give us complete control over the nostalgia factor. You can switch between the remastered and the original graphics and sound at any time in the game.
The package sounds pretty solid. The convenience features take the frustrating grind out of the old classic, and the option to switch between graphics and sound shows respect for the original. Anyone wanting to revisit the JRPG roots of the series will have the perfect opportunity this fall. Collectors, by the way, will opt for the physical version, which will be available for PS5, Switch, and Switch 2.
