Vertigo Games announces The 7th Guest remake for 2026. Featuring volumetric 3D video and new puzzles, the classic game will be released for PC and current consoles.

Vertigo Games and the development studio Exkee are bringing the horror adventure “The 7th guest“It returns as a complete remake, which recently ventured into the VR world. The release is scheduled for 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC.”

The core of the remake is based on the modernization of the original FMV (Full Motion Video) sequences. Instead of flat videos, the developers opted for newly recorded, volumetric video content. Live-action performances by actors were captured in 3D and integrated directly into the three-dimensional game environments of Henry Stauf's villa. The goal of this technique is to make the characters appear spatially tangible within the game world.

Revised puzzle design and dynamic game world

The game remains true to the premise of the original: Six guests accept the invitation of the eccentric toymaker Henry Stauf to his estate, while the identity of the titular seventh guest forms the central mystery. The gameplay focuses on solving puzzles, which, according to the publisher, have been completely reworked or redesigned for this new edition.

These puzzles are deeply integrated into the lore of the house and incorporate familiar elements from the original. Furthermore, the environments react dynamically to the player's progress: through optical illusions and visual changes, the mansion transforms during exploration, revealing new rooms and secrets.

The remake targets all current platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, suggesting efficient scalability of the engine. The use of volumetric video is the most technically interesting aspect, as it aims to eliminate the jarring transition between pre-rendered sequences and real-time graphics.

Those who no longer touch the original due to its cumbersome 90s technology will find a technically up-to-date entry point here in 2026.
