Square Enix has surprisingly announced a new game that is generating a lot of buzz and immediately sparking interest. Zelda: A Link to the Past or Minish Cap remembers. The title is called The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales and is being developed by the renowned team Asano, which has previously been known primarily for games such as Octopath Traveler or Live to live was known. This time, they are taking a different direction, namely classic action-adventure in beautiful HD-2D graphics.
The main character is the young adventurer Elliot, who not only looks strongly like a Red Mage from final Fantasy He is reminiscent of, but can also act in a similarly versatile way. Together with his fairy friend Faie, he sets off to explore mysterious ruins outside his homeland of Huther, a dangerous mission that holds not only monsters, but apparently also time jumps.
More than just a Zelda copy?
What initially seemed like a clear ZeldaThe reference works, quickly gaining independence. The combat system in The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales It features seven freely selectable weapon types, including swords, bows, sickles, and chains, which can be individually upgraded using "Maginite." There's also a cooperative aspect: Faie, Elliot's fairy, can be controlled by a second player. This feature, while still under development, holds potential for creative co-op moments.
And then there's the game world: Philabieldia, a name that sounds a bit like something from a Square Enix random number generator, but apparently offers an open, winding world full of caves, enemies, and secrets. Anyone who's already familiar with... Secret of Mana or Zelda: Oracle of Ages Anyone who grew up here should feel right at home.
A bold step with great potential
It's remarkable that Team Asano is developing an action-adventure game. The HD 2D engine has so far been considered a stylish platform for classic JRPGs. With The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales They are now testing their suitability for more dynamic genres, and so far the results look promising.
The question remains: how deep will the story be? How open is the world? And how effective is the co-op mechanic? Those who are curious can already get a feel for the game with a free demo on the Switch 2 and provide direct feedback to Square Enix in a survey to follow. Having the opportunity to influence development is rare, which makes it all the more exciting when a studio takes this step.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Released in 2026.

That's where the Switch 2 reaches its limits.
I'll take a look, maybe it's an alternative to Terranigma.
I played the demo yesterday. It makes a good impression! I really like the art style and I also really enjoyed Octopath Traveler (turn-based combat).
The controls were good and everything felt "right". The quick menu and other features could perhaps be improved a bit to make switching between Faie's powers easier. I also gave corresponding feedback in the survey.
Looking forward to the game!
It reminded me of Secret of Evermore
Fortunately, recharging the weapons is much faster!
It only comes as a game key card, and I won't buy that kind of garbage.
I can understand that. I also think key cards are stupid. But if I like the game (which was the case with the demo), then that's secondary for me. I'll get it for PlayStation anyway. The physical game era is over. We have to accept that games will only be available as downloads (at least increasingly so in the near future). I don't like this trend, and there should be a right to play purchased games (at least the offline portion) even without the infrastructure of the developer/publisher/console manufacturer.
I am at least too selfish to cut myself in the foot and forgo the fun of the game because I disagree with the way the game is being released.
