The VR arcade shooter The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR has surprisingly received a horde mode as free DLC, in which players have to compete against entire swarms of enemies that become increasingly difficult.

The DLC description states that this dark rollercoaster ride of horrors takes the player straight to hell and back. In this nightmarish mode, players are confronted by swarms of enemies and must traverse each room to defeat increasingly difficult foes and survive, all appearing in every conceivable and hideous form straight from hell.

Faster, scarier, and new weapons

For this new experience, the pace is increased even further, there are bigger drops on the descents, and new weapons to unlock. Players also return to the most intense sections of the game, including the 'don't blink' rooms, where death comes the moment you look away.

The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR launched in March as a promising launch title, However, it initially disappointed in technical terms. In June, a comprehensive update was finally released that fixed most of the problems and The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR which made it one of the most fun experiences on PS VR2.

The new DLC completely makes you forget the initial frustration with the game, which in our final review consistently convincing.

"The PS VR2 transforms the game into a truly immersive experience, one that you can physically feel, that sometimes even induces panic and makes you forget that you're actually still at home in the safety of your living room. That's what VR is all about, and where technical shortcomings fade into the background. Supermassive Games deserves high praise for having really stepped up their game and made such comprehensive improvements after the initially disastrous launch in March."

Horde mode is now available as a free DLC in the PlayStation Store available.

The Dark Pictures with free DLC? Awesome! 🙂 I've wanted the game from the start. The first one was great.
