Following 'Assassin's Creed', Ubisoft has its next big film project, 'The Division', in development, which is slowly making progress. They recently secured Oscar winner Stephan Gaghan as director and screenwriter.
Gaghan won an Oscar for the screenplay of the film 'Traffic'. He was also nominated for his work on the film 'Syriana', which he co-directed and wrote. His latest directorial effort is the film 'Gold', released in January 2017. He joins Oscar nominees Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal on this project, which is based on the fastest-selling new video game franchise of all time.
“We are very excited to present Stephen’s unique vision of the game to audiences around the world,” says Gérard Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
“We can’t wait to see how Stephen’s extraordinary passion and talent will bring the amazing world of The Division to life,” Matt Phelps, Vice President and Head of Development at Ubisoft Motion Pictures, adds:
“I’m looking forward to working with Ubisoft Motion Pictures and the team at Massive Entertainment. Together we will bring The Division to the big screen. I’m working with amazing and exceptionally creative people who are also willing to take risks.” says director and screenwriter Stephen Gaghan. “The game was a huge success primarily because of its uniquely created visual landscape. It’s a vision of Manhattan in the midst of an apocalypse. It’s expansive, wonderfully strange, yet familiar, and brimming with possibilities. It’s also unusual to have the opportunity to work with Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal so early in the film’s development. We all feel that the story Ubisoft has created is more relevant than ever.”
Ubisoft Motion Pictures is involved in the production, along with Nine Stories, founded by Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker (“Beasts of No Nation”), and Freckle Films, founded by Jessica Chastain.
