According to insider DanielRPK, Sony is reportedly working with PlayStation Productions on a film adaptation of the cult classic. While official details are lacking, the rumors alone are enough to rekindle old memories.
From problem development to cult status
Anyone who remembers the beginnings knows: The Last Guardian It was anything but a success story. The game was announced for the PS3 in 2009, disappeared into development hell for years, and finally only appeared on the PS4 at the end of 2016. While critics praised the emotional bond between the boy and the mystical being Trico, the long development cycle and technical problems prevented it from becoming a mainstream hit.
That makes the idea of Sony turning this title into a film project all the more exciting. This complex story, coupled with the unique relationship between human and creature, could work on the big screen – perhaps even better than it did in the game.
Sony continues to focus on its brands
Sony and PlayStation Productions have proven in recent years that they like to bring their brands to the cinema or television. Uncharted and Gran Turismo have already run, while God of War and Horizon should be adapted as a series. The Last Guardian Joining it would be a bold move.
