It was already announced over the weekend that The Last of Us has received a "Not suitable for minors" rating from the USK, but this left open the question of whether the game will also be released uncensored in this country.
At today's The Last of Us event in Berlin, we posed this question directly to Naughty Dog's Community Strategist, Arne Meyer, who indirectly confirmed that we in Germany can also enjoy unrestricted gameplay. At least, Naughty Dog is unaware of any special adjustments being made to the game.
Even though The Last of Us feels significantly more brutal than other games, it's the context that makes the brutality relevant. Is killing senseless or for fun? That's not the case in The Last of Us. Here, it's primarily about survival.
