With 'The Order: 1886', Ready at Dawn is currently working in collaboration with Santa Monica Studios on their first promising PS4 project, for which exciting details about the backstory have emerged today.
It is said that it all began in the 7th or 8th century. Mutations suddenly appeared in the human genetic code, which, while not immediately visible, some exhibited animalistic behaviors. This transformed them into a new race, and the half-breeds were born.
Over time, humans began calling the half-breeds by the names of legendary monsters. This led to conflicts and confrontations, which humans were outmatched by due to the half-breeds' resilience and regenerative abilities.
Several centuries passed before humanity finally had the chance for revenge. Brave men and women dedicated their lives to the war against the half-breeds. These knights became known as 'The Order'. Many knights lost their lives in battle, but the Order never fell. When a knight was killed, a successor was named after him, who would take his place in battle in the name of humanity.
In 19th-century London, the war between humans and half-breeds still raged, including in the Whitechapel district, one of the many boroughs that will be remembered by posterity. Over the decades, this district had become a crucial turning point in the battle. The development of science and the Industrial Revolution had become a powerful asset of the human race.
Giant airships patrol the skies over London, sometimes anchored at a vast base with towers to monitor the city center. Each district is connected by an electric railway that crisscrosses the city like veins. Thanks to these technologies, humans have, for the first time, gained the upper hand over the mixed race.
At the same time that the threat of the half-breeds is waning, a new threat is taking hold: a massive uprising in the British Empire. The Industrial Revolution is simultaneously causing suffering and poverty among the population, and a growing class imbalance is angering citizens who are also taking up arms.
In the end, however, the Order finds itself facing far more enemies than just these two.
The Order: 1886 is expected to be released in 2014.
