The launch of The Outer Worlds 2 Things didn't go entirely smoothly, at least not for everyone. Especially on the PS5, there were reports of faulty bonus content and persistent gameplay bugs. Now Obsidian has released hotfix 1.0.4.0, which is intended to fix a number of critical issues. The patch is available now and, while not huge, eliminates some of the most annoying stumbling blocks.
Important bug fixes and improved gameplay
Owners of the Premium Edition on PS5 can rejoice. The promised Corporate Appreciation Prize Pack and the Commander Zane's Battle Pack are now correctly unlocked. The sometimes bizarre bugs, such as a persistent black screen when entering certain areas or the weapon equipment bug after using the Dematerializer, are also a thing of the past.
Obsidian has also made changes to the content. Several quests such as “Forbidden Secrets of the Undisputed Claim” or “Crash Course in Telemetry” Quests can now be completed normally again. The companion Inez, who simply vanished without a trace in some save files, has also been reworked, at least for new save files. Unfortunately, existing save games remain unaffected, for which the studio explicitly apologizes.
Minor but noticeable improvements have been made to the user interface and player guidance. Interaction bars are now displayed correctly, motion blur settings are saved, and dialogue positions no longer shift randomly. Subtitle font settings also finally work, improving accessibility and readability.
Stability, Audio & Atmosphere
Aside from quest and interface fixes, Obsidian has eliminated several crashes that occurred in very specific situations, such as interrupting NPC dialogue or using certain grenades. The audio design has also been slightly tweaked: radio transmissions repeat less frequently, and the volume of voice recordings is more dynamic. An accidentally placed underground radio emitter has also been removed, which should explain some of the puzzling background sounds.
Hotfix 1.0.4.0 isn't a quantum leap, but it's a solid signal: Obsidian is listening. Many of the fixes come directly from community feedback, and the developers are openly communicating what still needs to be done, such as... Consumerism Flaw-Bug. For a game that's just getting started, that's a good sign. The full patch notes are available here. with this link.
