The Sinking City 2 from Frogwares will be released on August 18th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. A one-hour Steam demo of the horror game is live now.

Frogwares will release "The Sinking City 2" on August 18, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, while a one-hour playable PC demo is available on Steam now.

Despite the ongoing production challenges amidst wartime conditions, Ukrainian developer Frogwares has set a release window for its survival horror sequel. The title will launch simultaneously for current-generation consoles and via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG for PC.

The immediately available PC demo includes the complete first hour of gameplay. Players take on the role of the new protagonist Calvin Rafferty and explore the flood-ravaged city of Arkham.

Gameplay change based on Lovecraft

The developers have decided to shift the focus of "The Sinking City 2" more towards survival horror compared to its predecessor. The story takes place in America in the 1920s, after a supernatural flood has inundated everything.

Besides the usual investigation mechanics, which are optional this time around, the focus is on resource management, a limited inventory, and combat against mutated creatures called "Slithers." Frogwares emphasizes movement on foot and by boat through urban ruins such as dilapidated hospitals and mansions. Players must weigh whether the risk is worth it and what they'll gain from exploring the game world.

Summary: Key takeaways about intuitive eating:

  • Date confirmed: The game will be released on August 18, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.
  • Instant PC demo: A one-hour preview version on Steam shows the game's prologue and serves as a technical benchmark.
  • New gameplay framework: The title shifts from the detective focus of its predecessor to classic survival horror with resource management.
  • Optional content: Puzzles and investigations are no longer essential for progressing, but unlock upgrades and lore.
  • Production made more difficult: Despite massive infrastructure failures and the effects of war, the Ukrainian studio Frogwares is completing the game.

Frogwares delivers with “The Sinking City 2“Despite massive external disruptions, it was a perfect landing. The shift towards more survival action and optional puzzles could improve the gameplay compared to the often sluggish pacing of the first installment.”

PC gamers can use the one-hour demo for a direct benchmark on their own systems. Console gamers will have to wait until August for in-depth performance analyses.

I'm always so unsure about these things… I was almost ready to back the Kickstarter and support the big edition. But I'm always so torn about the first game… I've never been able to finish it in one go and I don't know what to make of it. The second one looks better and, in some ways, worse. I'd be happy if Sinking City 2 turns out to be a good game, but I'm cautious. Maybe I'll download the demo and take a look… that should clear things up.

It would be great if Frogwares delivered a nice game.
