Our preview of Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow A surprising comeback is on the horizon for one of the most iconic stealth franchises. The project is being developed by Maze Theory, with support from... Vertigo games and Eidos-Montréal, and is slated for release on PlayStation VR2 later this year. Not too many details are available at the moment – but what is known so far has fans buzzing.
New edition with a VR focus
Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow It's not a mere remake, but rather an independent reimagining for virtual reality. The story once again takes place in the dark steampunk metropolis "The City," this time under the rule of Lord Ulysses Northcrest. Players assume the role of Magpie, a young thief whose past is closely intertwined with the tyrannical regime.
The focus is clearly on immersive stealth action: switching off light sources, picking locks, and robbing guards – all of this is meant to be experienced in VR through haptic feedback and intuitive motion controls. Tools like the bow and the iconic water arrows are also included. The development team promises realistic interactions where you can literally reach into any drawer. Whether this promise ultimately holds true remains to be seen.
A big name, many expectations
The project is backed by well-known names: Vertigo Games recently collaborated with Metro Awakening and Arizona Sunshine 2 They delivered solid VR titles. Eidos-Montréal, the rights holders of the ThiefThe fact that the brand is involved suggests at least some degree of creative control. However, the extent of their actual influence on the project remains unclear.
The return of the ThiefThe series is likely to evoke nostalgic memories for fans – and equally high expectations. In VR, the "hide-and-seek" concept can work if the mechanics and level design mesh well. However, the bar is set high, not least because of the series' mixed reception in recent installments.
What do you think? Can the classic film make the leap to VR?

And regarding the news:
But gameplay scenes were shown! Please adjust the post accordingly xD
Of course, these were gameplay scenes where the bow is fired, where the hands feel the picture frame, etc.
Amazing news! Absolutely amazing news! I was sitting there with tears in my eyes, it really hit me hard! So brilliant, I'm so excited! I hope all the gamers out there finally buy it! The series is so fantastic, and in VR it's going to be absolutely incredible.
Anyone who plays VR and doesn't buy the game should shut up and not complain afterwards that there are no more high-quality VR games.
It already looks absolutely brilliant, and the watch is incredibly well-made, and Montreal is home to some of the best developers anyway – a match made in heaven!
"Complaining that there are no more high-quality VR games."
I couldn't care less about the know-it-all babble of the VR haters.
I enjoy VR. Being right in the middle of it, not just a spectator. 🙂
Zombie Army VR is coming next week 🙂
I get the feeling that only those who have never actually played VR or even tried on the really old PlayStation 4 VR headset are complaining. People talk about things they know nothing about, and if you haven't experienced VR yourself with a current VR headset, you absolutely cannot form an opinion about it! But since everyone always wants to chime in, and the internet allows everyone to give their two cents, you end up with unqualified comments everywhere from people who have absolutely no idea what VR even looks like, feels like, or, most importantly, works.
Regarding Zombie Army VR: I like Rebellion and consider them very competent developers, but I've never really warmed to the Zombie series. I'd be interested to know if Zombie Army VR can be played and enjoyed solo, because the series has always seemed to me to be primarily designed for co-op. I'd definitely be interested to try it out.
ZA VR can be played solo or with two players, price €30
