Tides of Annihilation announces its first playable events for this summer. A new video showcases impressive graphical enhancements using Unreal Engine and NVIDIA.

Developer Eclipse Glow Games is releasing its fantasy action-adventure "Tides of Annihilation" this year. A new video promises high-level graphics optimizations thanks to Unreal Engine and NVIDIA.

The most important news for us: The first public test phase for “ will start in the summerTides of Annihilation"...where players can get hands-on experience. Registration is via the studio's official social media channels. So far, there have mainly been stylish trailers; now the focus is on the technical foundation. The developers are working closely with Epic Games and NVIDIA to get the best possible performance from every piece of hardware."

The focus is on the so-called Colossus Knights. These enormous brutes made a powerful impression in the first trailer, but they consume massive hardware resources during development. To salvage performance, the team developed a new hierarchical attachment method for Nanite meshes. This allows for extremely detailed character models without the frame rate plummeting. The CPU and GPU were completely analyzed and optimized for this purpose.

NVIDIA support and supple fabrics

Besides Epic, NVIDIA is also directly involved in the development. This involves upscaling, ray tracing, and path tracing. The optimization even extends to the driver level, supported by detailed performance data from the graphics card giant. Tencent is also providing technical support.

In the video, producer Kun Fu and his team emphasize that the optimization is already taking effect. The average frame rate in the shown sections has been noticeably increased. At the same time, improvements are being made to the details. Animated fabrics, smoother transitions in movement, and more nuanced facial expressions for the characters are on the to-do list. The battles in "Tides of Annihilation" are dynamic and demand constant movement. The technology can't get in the way.

The announcement of a playable version for the summer is the best sign the developers can give us right now. Anyone can put together a fancy rendered trailer. A smooth gameplay experience with maximum graphical splendor is the real challenge. The fact that the studio has brought Epic and NVIDIA on board demonstrates their ambition. If the performance is solid by summer, this game has real potential.

The giants or titans (hello Shadow of the Colossus) look very cool, the rest looks like every Korean-Chinese game that's currently being released, and it will probably be another Souls-like game.

According to the developers, it won't be Souls-like.
