New content for John Carpenter's Toxic Commando! The free Urban Blight update brings a new PvE mission, six weapons, and a forklift.

John Carpenter's Toxic Commando is now receiving fresh content in the form of the free "Urban Blight" update for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment are sending us to a contaminated city one year after the events of the main game.

The story remains wonderfully dull. The shady Hopewell corporation, of course, hasn't learned anything and is experimenting with the deadly sludge to use it as a weapon. This goes completely wrong. Now the commandos have to take the fall again. Typical trash cinema.

The worst part for us: the first enemy type, the "Hornet," flies in. The beast grabs you, pulls you into the air, and drops you to the ground. Fall damage and death are guaranteed. This is going to cause serious frustration on the servers. But that's exactly what we want to see in co-op: pure chaos.

More gunmen and heavy chains

To combat the hornets and the hordes, the update delivers six new weapons, including three primary weapons and one heavy weapon. Two new vehicles are also included: the Thrasher MTV with a turret and rocket launcher, available on several maps. Exclusively for the new urban mission, there's also a forklift. Yes, you heard right. A forklift against zombie hordes. Sounds absurd, but it makes perfect sense in the Carpenter universe.

The new "Trials" feature is designed to provide long-term motivation. It offers daily, weekly, and seasonal challenges for XP and exclusive rewards. For those who want even more visual customization, the paid "Cosmetic Pack 1 DLC" (included in the Season Pass) offers graffiti skins, leopard print for cars, and a popcorn charm. It's an option, but not essential.

The update delivers exactly what "Toxic Commando" was missing. The Trials could make the grind more bearable if the rewards are right. The forklift missions promise mindless co-op fun, but the Hornets will quickly become annoying without a skilled team. However, this free content update is a no-brainer.

The soundtrack update is also a nice addition. Gunship released the full music video for "Tell Me When the World Stops Ending" in an analog retro glitch style to coincide with the update's release. It exudes pure 80s vibes.
