Today, June 16, 2026, Ubisoft releases the free story quest "Black Tides," which is the actual narrative ending of "Assassin's Creed Shadows" and simultaneously links the action RPG with the upcoming remaster Black Flag Resynced.
The Title Update 1.1.11 This ends post-launch support for the Japanese version, but completely excludes Nintendo Switch 2 players from the important crossover content due to technical and platform limitations.
Patch 1.1.11 forces completion of post-launch quests.
The new mission "Black Tides" confronts the two protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, with two elite Templars of the "Black Cross" order. Ubisoft requires players to not only complete the main story to access this final story arc, but also to finish the previous DLC quests "A Critical Encounter" and "A Puzzlement."
Associate Game Director Simon Lemay-Comtois explicitly confirms in an accompanying video that only these three missions together constitute the "true ending" of the story. Ubisoft is thus retrospectively correcting the incomplete original ending of the main game, which was heavily criticized by the community. A questionable publishing strategy. The story only truly comes to life months after the game's release.
Technical platform lock in the Animus crossover projects
The Animus Hub will simultaneously launch the two reward systems, "Riptides" and "Undertow." These function like classic Battle Passes, unlocking pirate gear for Naoe and Yasuke in Shadows and Japanese outfits for Edward Kenway in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. Progress can be made synchronously by solving anomalies in both games.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is completely excluded from this crossover content. Since the remaster isn't being released for the Nintendo console, Ubisoft has simply removed the feature entirely from that platform. For buyers of the Nintendo Switch 2 version, this means a content-stripped product despite identical hardware prices.
Domains mode breaks down established character builds
For the endgame, the update integrates the new simulation feature "Domains". From level 30 onwards, five simulations are available, each scalable across ten levels, and their aggressive gameplay modifiers render existing equipment combinations useless.
Players are essentially forced to tackle the previously neglected min-maxing aspect of Mythic and Artifact upgrades, as a single standard tactic is no longer sufficient for all levels. The rewards, in the form of exclusive weapons and engravings, can only be unlocked through this mode and are not available in the real-money shop.
The fact that the "real ending" is only being delivered now, hidden behind the completion of two previous post-launch quests, leaves a bad taste in the mouth, despite the free-to-play mentality. Technically, the integration with "Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced" via the Animus Hub is a clever way to retain customers, but it only further highlights the unequal treatment of Switch 2 players. Those who own the game on PS5, Xbox, or PC at least get a challenging endgame.

Awesome update, exactly what I wanted – an arena-style mode. Not bad, Ubisoft, and for me, this game is clearly the winner compared to Yotai.
