Epic Games has today Unreal Engine Showcase The availability of Unreal Engine 5 for all developers has been confirmed. At the same time, further projects have been confirmed.

Unreal Engine 5 is designed to empower developers of all sizes to push the boundaries of what's possible, both visually and interactively. With Unreal Engine 5, next-generation real-time 3D content and experiences can be created with greater freedom, accuracy, and flexibility than ever before.

To achieve this, a range of groundbreaking tools are provided for rendering real-time worlds with incredible high-fidelity detail. These include Lumen, a fully dynamic global illumination solution that allows you to create believable scenes where indirect lighting instantly adapts to changes in direct lighting or geometry.

Furthermore, a new virtualized micropolygon geometry system is being introduced. nanite for use, which gives developers the ability to create games and experiences with enormous amounts of geometric detail.

Virtual Shadow Maps was also specifically designed for collaboration with Lumen and nanite Developed to render complex shadows without sacrificing performance, this allows creators to focus more on their creativity instead of constantly optimizing everything.

The announcement was accompanied by two major projects being developed using Unreal Engine 5. Firstly, there's... the new Tomb Raider from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, as well as The Witcher: A New Saga, which was confirmed a few days ago.

In a brief statement, CD Projekt said:

"Our collaboration with Epic Games has only just begun. It was the shift towards open-world support that drew our attention to UE5."
