Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong: Gameplay video looks at the story

By

With the imminent release of Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong In about two months, NACON and Big Bad Wolf will be taking a look at the story of the RPG. A new video reveals more about the unprecedented crisis plaguing Boston's vampire society and offers a glimpse into the beginning of this situation.

Mysterious assassins have attacked the Boston Camarilla – a secret society to which most of the city's vampires belong. Galeb Bazory, Emem Louis, and Leysha are tasked by Hazel Iversen with uncovering the attackers' identities and motives for the massive assault. The mission is simple: infiltrate, investigate, and find answers, using supernatural powers if necessary.

In true detective fashion, fans visit various locations in search of valuable clues, solve puzzles, and interact with a variety of characters to progress in the game. But just like in narrative RPGs, a genre that Big Bad Wolf... The Council has already explored, also offers Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong a variety of gameplay mechanics.

Each of the three heroes has a fully customizable character sheet. This allows them to become experts in speech and persuasion, dominating others, or to develop their technical skills to crack computers and locks. The heroes also possess their own unique vampire powers: the disciplinesLeysha, for example, can conceal her presence with "Oblivion," Emem uses "Speed" to reach otherwise inaccessible places, and Galeb turns others into his puppets by applying "Domination."

Some particularly shady NPCs trigger confrontations, battles in the form of dialogues, in which fans must find the right arguments and use skills and disciplines to convince the other person to reveal their secrets.

The intensive use of vampiric powers comes at a high price, however: a hunger for blood. If one of the heroes runs out of blood, the inner beast takes over and directly affects their options. To prevent this, it is possible to ambush a human and feed on their blood. However, it is crucial that this action be carried out in secret to maintain the Masquerade, the vampire law that conceals the existence of these creatures of the night from humans.

The game also includes scripted action sequences in certain situations where it is essential to keep a clear head and make the right decisions despite time pressure. Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong is a narrative game with multiple storylines in which certain decisions permanently influence the fate of the heroes and the Boston vampire community.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong will be released on May 19, 2022.
