Officially, the franchise is supposed to be dead at Ubisoft after the last installment, Watch Dogs Legion, wasn't a major commercial success. However, the publisher is still sticking with the film project, as a current tweet shows. Ubisoft comments on this with the words "Lights_Camera_Action.exe", which stands for the start of filming.

The Watch Dogs movie is officially in production, although there is no official release date yet, which is expected to be in 2025 or 2026. It will be directed by French director Mathieu Turi, known for his work on the science fiction thriller. The Deep House (2022) is known.

The cast includes Sophie Wilde (known for her role in "Startups") and Tom Blyth (who appeared in the Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes). Further specific roles or casting details have not yet been announced.

Regarding the plot, there are still no official details, but it has been confirmed that the film will not be a direct adaptation of any of the Watch Dogs video games. Instead, it will be a new story set in the same universe. Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, once said that the film will explore the growing impact of technology on society.

A new chance for Watch Dogs as a game?

The Watch Dogs movie could give the game a new lease on life, provided it's as successful as Amazon's Fallout. Unofficially, the franchise is considered although considered deadBut never say never. For now, no new game is planned, and fans can only hope for crossover content like in XDefiant, where Watch Dogs will make an appearance.

However, generally speaking, if the film is as huge a success as Fallout, a new game is by no means out of the question.
