Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will be released in early 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja are officially continuing the dark action RPG.
The first installment reached over five million players worldwide. Now, the action returns to the demon-infested battlefields of China. The reveal trailer relies on a familiar premise: the eternal struggle for the elixir of immortality unleashes chaos.
The Return to the Three Kingdoms
A new champion must break this cycle. The video contains the crucial line: "Awaken, Phoenix." This hints at a new central theme. Later, the question arises: who set the Red Cliffs ablaze? Team Ninja once again tightly intertwines the historical events with their dark fantasy lore.
The gameplay is said to be based on advanced Chinese martial arts. Anyone familiar with the predecessor knows what that means: swift parries, precise timing, and brutal counterattacks. The developers promise battles alongside well-known historical heroes. The combat system needs to deliver. The first game was good, but it had some rough edges. This is where Team Ninja needs to improve.
Microsoft has apparently bought back into the marketing game. The title will be available directly on Xbox Game Pass at launch and supports Xbox Play Anywhere. This is a great deal for subscribers. Sony players, on the other hand, will have to pay full price on the PS5.
The teaser is fun, but it doesn't provide any concrete evidence. Team Ninja has the foundation, but they absolutely need to improve the balancing and level design compared to the first game. A release in early 2027 at least gives them enough time for fine-tuning.
