Wreck Runners will be released on July 16, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Disruptive Games has confirmed the simultaneous release of the co-op extraction shooter.

Developer Disruptive Games will release its four-player co-op title "Wreck Runners" for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S simultaneously with its PC launch on July 16, 2026. The studio officially confirmed this during the console announcement.

The core concept is based on classic loot-and-extract mechanics, but relocates the scenario to a maritime science fiction setting in the Bermuda Triangle. Players take on salvage missions as employees of the fictional "Trustwell Corporation." The missions are completed in teams of four, with a time-progressing fog acting as the primary PvE opponent and round limiter. Those who wait too long lose their cargo.

Vehicle focus and physics tools

Technically, the title differs from purely infantry-based games in its focus on the amphibious vehicle called the ORCA. The vehicle serves for both deep water travel and air travel.

The recovery of scrap and valuables is done using the so-called "scrapjack" tool, a physics-based grappling hook mechanism. This means that loot isn't simply lying on the ground, but must be pried out of wrecks and difficult-to-access areas.

Between rounds, the typical progression loop kicks in. Earned credits are directly invested in upgrading equipment, vehicles, and cosmetic customizations. According to the developers, success depends entirely on communication via voice or text messages. Solo players will likely find this challenging.

On paper, "Wreck Runners" delivers solid genre fare, but breaks with the classic military aesthetic of current extraction shooters. The simultaneous release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S this summer is a well-chosen strategy to ensure a critical mass of players on the servers right from the start. Whether the scrapjack physics mechanics will provide long-term motivation or lead to frustration will have to be determined by the final controller testing in July. The foundation, however, is there.
