Even if the Xbox One X Despite the fact that the new console will be the most powerful on the market from November, Sony seems completely unconcerned that many PlayStation fans might switch over. They believe that very few developers will fully exploit its potential, instead focusing on the lowest common denominator.
As Jim Ryan, Head of Global Sales & Marketing at Playstation, explainedThis was also observed with the PlayStation 3, which, on paper, was significantly more powerful than the Xbox 360, but this advantage could hardly be utilized in terms of games. Especially when it comes to multiplatform games, one will likely have to settle for the lowest common denominator, which in this case lies in the limitations of the PS4 Pro.
This is simply the most rational approach from an economic perspective, and there are already some examples of it. For instance, 'Assassin's Creed Origins' will not offer native 4K resolution, but will instead rely on checkerboard rendering, like the PS4 Pro. However, it's doubtful whether the average player will actually be able to discern the difference. Similarly, 'Destiny 2' is cited, which will only run at 30fps on the Xbox One X, even though a higher frame rate would theoretically be possible. This, however, would involve more effort and expense, which developers and publishers will want to avoid.
Ultimately, only purely exclusive games will likely benefit from the Xbox One X's performance, and Microsoft has a lot of catching up to do in that area, especially considering just this year. But Sony, too, is still waiting to see what developers will be able to get out of the Xbox One X.
