Last weekend, rumors surfaced that Sony had closed its long-standing studio Zipper Interactive, reportedly resulting in the dismissal of several employees.
Sony has declined to comment on this matter, even when specifically asked. An unannounced project by the studio is also reported to have been cancelled.
While this could be an indication of the studio's closure, it's not necessarily the case with layoffs. Just as people are hired specifically for a project, their contracts often end upon completion. This is common practice these days. And since Zipper Interactive's latest project – Unit 13 – was only recently released, layoffs wouldn't be unexpected.
