The Acquisition of Square Enix Studios The Embracer Group also includes all games developed there, including Marvel's Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. What will happen to these titles is currently still unclear.

Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors points out that Disney, as the license holder, has a say in the matter, and while everything could continue as normal, it's equally possible that the two titles will have to be dropped. In the worst-case scenario, support would simply end.

Considering that Marvel' Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy Square Enix fell short of expectations and Marvel' Avengers Since things are generally not going particularly well, the latter could be more likely than ever.

In a Q&A Wingefords said the following about this:

"All games developed by the studios are included in the transaction. However, to complete this transaction, a number of external approvals from external parties are required. And potential licensors, as mentioned here, could be one of those required approvals."

This isn't just about ongoing support, but also about potentially future installments that could be dropped. Generally, the Marvel hype seems to be waning somewhat, even though other projects are currently in development, including at Sony and 2K Games. In that case, it's questionable whether the Embracer Group still has a strong interest in continuing to support the games.

It was also recently stated that Marvel' Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy This caused a $200 million financial hole at Square Enix, which is said to have contributed to the decision to sell the studios and brands.
