The remake of Edward Kenway's pirate adventure – Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced – has had a historic launch and simultaneously stormed the Twitch charts. Vantage Studios reports two million units sold within the first 24 hours.
The Steam record and the first figures
99.451 simultaneous players The Steam release marks the best launch in the series' history on Valve's platform. That's quite a statement. Ubisoft Singapore has brought the 2013 classic to the latest Anvil engine, and it's been an instant hit. On release day, it immediately reached number one on Twitch. The community is clearly incredibly excited for the Caribbean.
Critics agree. A Metascore of 84 and 85 percent at Open Critic make the remake the highest-rated assassination installment since the original Black Flag. Digital Foundry even calls it one of the most successful remakes Absolutely. So the technology works. Finally, a release without a major performance debacle.
How good is the new gameplay?
This isn't just a cheap texture update. The developers have made some serious improvements. The combat system now relies heavily on parrying, and stealth and parkour have been noticeably refined. The old weaknesses of the original version are now a thing of the past.
In addition, there are deeper naval battles and fresh story content. The old gameplay remains, but without the gameplay baggage of the past. This is exactly what a remake should look like.
There was some skepticism before the release, especially since Ubisoft Singapore was behind the project. However, the result completely dispels any doubts.
