After Ubisoft has presented the core mechanics of "Assassin's Creed Shadows" - from stealth to parkour to combat - the focus today is on a feature that promises not only tactical but also emotional depth: the hideout. This secret hideaway is more than just a base - it's a living home, an upgradable fortress and a symbol of your League's advancement.
Deep in the hills of Izumi Settsu province lies your hideout - well hidden, difficult to access and ideal for secret operations. A narrow, winding path leads through the rocks, and even insiders need to know exactly what they are looking for.
Here players will meet Tomiko, the hideout's caretaker and a clever, capable ally. She keeps the place running - but with the help of Naoe, Yasuke and the countless resources you collect on your travels, the hideout will transform into a vibrant command center.
Design your own Assassin retreat
The hideout in "Assassin's Creed Shadows" is the most customizable base of operations in the entire series to date. Tomiko's Valley covers over an acre of land that you can customize to your liking - with buildings, pavilions, paths, trees, ponds and traditional Japanese architecture. But it's not just about decoration: every building you construct brings tangible advantages in gameplay.
Dany, one of the developers, explains: "After fortresses, mansions, pirate hideouts and moving trains, we had to take the concept of the home base to a new level. That's why we're giving players full control over their base - from construction to customization."
But your hideout isn't just an empty shell - it's a living place full of stories. As you travel through Japan, you will meet potential allies: scouts, blacksmiths, duelists and more. Each one brings not only their own skills, but also their own background story.
Once recruited, these characters spend time in hiding - training, resting or pursuing their own rituals. Those who prefer to handle weapons will often be found in the dojo. Others prefer the sociable zashiki, where plans are made and intrigues spun over sake.
A paradise for animal lovers
And what would a real hideout be without animal companions? In "Assassin's Creed Shadows" you can adopt countless animals - from stray cats and dogs to wild Tanukis and Shika deer. Thanks to the Sumi-e painting activity, you can even bring certain animals into hiding.
"We have so many animals scattered around the world - and what do the players do? They drop everything to stroke them", says Dany with a grin. "So it was only logical to integrate them permanently into the hide."
The Hideout grows with you - and it's far more than just a pretty feature. It's a place where stories unfold, alliances are forged and the true weight of your advancement is revealed. The developers have deliberately created space for spontaneous interactions between the characters - sometimes whimsical, sometimes profound.
"We asked our writers, 'What happens when these two characters suddenly become roommates?' - and the result is some of the funniest and most emotional scenes in the game." Dany reveals.
The hideout in "Assassin's Creed Shadows" is more than just a base - it is your second home, your strategic center and the place where you form your own empire.
