The rumor mill is churning once again! A new leak claims that the Gears of War Collection has secretly found its way into the backend of the PlayStation Store. If this turns out to be true, the legendary trilogy could not only come to the PS5, but also shine with PS5 Pro optimizations. But is the remaster really the prestige project that the PS5 Pro deserves?
PS5 Pro optimization: More than just pretty mud?
If you Gears of War you know that the series thrives on bombastic graphics, spectacular lighting effects and brutal firefights. A PS5 Pro upgrade could take this to the extreme. More FPS, higher resolution, ray tracing? Sounds like the perfect stage for Marcus Fenix and his Lancer chainsaw.
According to the X-user "DetectiveSeeds", the collection is set to be released in August 2025. This would fit in well with the timing of the PS5 Pro, which Sony will presumably be pushing with numerous other titles in the same period. A prestige remaster with the full force of new hardware features? Wouldn't be the worst strategy.
However, there is a catch: the alleged clues from the PlayStation Store suggest that the collection will only contain the single player. Multiplayer and co-op fans may therefore have to look down the tube. The online battles in particular have Gears of War into a cult brand - so why do without it? Maybe there will be an update later or Microsoft will just test the single-player offering in the Store.
Will it be a real next-gen experience?
If the PS5 Pro version really pulls out all the stops - higher FPS, 4K resolution, improved textures and stunning lighting effects - the collection could become a must-have remaster. However, if it's just a slightly prettified remake without the big technical leaps, the euphoria could quickly die down.
It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will really provide fans with a flagship game for the PS5 Pro or whether it will just end up being a nostalgic stopgap. In any case, the PS5 could certainly do with a crisp shooter in the style of Gears of War.
